Beware of cheap dental materials

Most dental therapies followed by dentists and oral surgeons involve heavy dependency on dental materials. Thus, the onus is on the doctors to choose the right combination of teeth materials to provide with the best solution to the patients as well as the right materials.

It is thus important that you do not take recourse to cheap package of dental surgery or therapy as it might cause severe damage not only to the affected tooth but also the associated set of dentures.

Dental materials are of varied quality and has a different set of purposes ranging from teeth whitening materials, teeth filling materials, dental sealants and materials for teeth crown to dental ceramics. The physical properties of teeth material range from hardness to malleability to flexibility.

For teeth implant procedure and teeth bonding, the dental materials need to be basically viscose by nature. The typical binders that are generally used but are not limited to include carboxy-methylcellulose, gum tragacanth, gum karaya, Irish moss to name a few.

Some of the teeth-filling materials are silver amalgam, alloy of gallium, indium and tin, resin-based teeth cavities filling material to glass cements. With time, lot of research done in this area to provide the best material; be there for the teeth crowning or for the teeth bonding. Silicate cements were first used to give with the original color of the tooth. These dental materials were in use mostly to cover the cavities of the front tooth such that it does not distort the facial appearance through a different colored tinge. To emulate a natural tooth, ceramic materials have also proved to be quite useful. These are mostly used to create the teeth veneers, teeth crowns and even the bridges.

However, ceramics are basically brittle by nature, to strengthen them further, innovations continued and the positive outcome was usage of alumina or zirconia, because of their opaque characteristics. Thus, ceramics were tried as dental implant material, but its best use was found when they were used as coatings in the metal implants.

 However, the most important raw material used in the teeth whitening or teeth bleaching processes is the de-mineralized water and its usage is as a diluting agent. Stain removal on teeth needs teeth bleaching materials including hydrogen peroxide, chemical bleaching materials such as magnesium carbonate, sodium metaphosphate, silica xerogels and hydrated aluminas. However, when chemical agents are used as teeth whitening materials caution should be exercised. It should not lead to tooth abuse as teeth bleaching has become more than a craze amongst the college going circles.
 
The most recent advancement in the fields of dentistry is use of glass Ionomer cements. These not only give a good look but also found to bond with the structure of the tooth firmly also with relative ease. Dental treatments come with a cost as because it involves cost for dental materials. So said, when someone is offering treatment at throw away prices, make sure they are using approved dental materials and not the garage stuff. After all tooth saving is what you aim for when you step into a dental clinic.
