  1. First set of aligners!

I picked up my first two sets of aligners on 8/15/13 morning! The appointment was a little...underwhelming. I was hoping to get a cool starter kit like some of you have, but I only got the standard Invisalign welcome kit. I asked about Chewies, but the tech said that only people whose trays don't fit well will need them. (I am planning to ask for some at my next visit because I found that they help my aligners fit more snugly).

I was a little annoyed at the tech when she had me ...

The lower arch was complicated: 60 trays, no less. And that's without the refinements that surely will come later. It needed a mid course correction but things are right on track and I want to share it with you all.

  4. RIP to my toothbrush kit

So... I had the perfect set up for my "toothbrush kit" which I carried everywhere with me. I used a blood pressure cuff bag which was small enough to fit in a purse but big enough to hold my toothbrush, a travel size listerine, whisps, flossers, dental wax (some times need it for new trays) a couple of packets of Polident, and my toothpaste.

While enjoying a romantic picnic in the park with my boyfriend we decided to move to a spot with more shade. When my boyfriend crossed ...

  5. please help!

I have had my braces for about 2 year now. And for the past 4-6 appts my orthodontist has been telling me my gums were swollen. They said I need to floss better. I made a serious attempt to do better but they never went down. But lately I'm noticing my two front permanent are SUPER loose! I am so scared! I don't want to loose these teeth. But I don't know what to do. Can someone please tell me if this is normal & how can I get my puffy gums to go down.

    Thanks in advance.

  6. Tray 21: Blackjack!

by , 08-10-2013 at 11:16 AM (Take Two: My Second Go at a Straighter Smile)
Isn't Blackjack the card game you play to 21? Yeah, thought it'd be funny to incorporate that into my subject title :)

So now I'm at Tray 21. I changed into it Tuesday night. Didn't realize it until a week or two ago, but I had scheduled my 6-month dental checkup this past Wednesday. The MORNING after changing my top tray. The teeth were a little sore - which, I admit, made me feel better because they didn't really get sore on Tray 20 - but the appointment went fine.

  7. How likely is it for a gap to reopen?

My braces have been off for many years. Unfortunately, I stopped wearing my retainer a few years after having my braces removed and a gap between my two front teeth slowly developed. I recently met with a dentist at a local (NYC) health fair. She informally looked at my teeth and suggested that I come in to be examined further. I may be a candidate for the Spring Hawley Retainer to close he gap, as opposed to wearing (costly) braces again. She told me that the retainer is removable and much ...

  8. Refinement 2. My take on SmartTrack

So, it was tray change day 2 days ago. This is the first time I've actually let a blog post go for 2 days before doing it. Can you tell I'm just not into this anymore? lol
I can't be bothered to do pics, but I'll do a few on tray 3, or my next visit. I can't really see much movement. I think we're tipping a premolar or two outward right now, so there's not much to see.

A few people have said they're curious about a comparison of the Ex30 (pre2013) material, to this new SmartTrack ...

  9. Tray 6! 1/3 there..

I switch to tray 7 in 6 days! Yay!

A little update. Gaps are forming between my top front teeth. Exciting.. because then they can start straightening out.

In case anyone wanted to know if it was okay to drink mango kombucha with trays in, it's mostly okay.. until whatever coloring in the drink turns your trays a RIDICULOUS yellow color. It's insane. Luckily, for some reason or another, it's not completely obvious while they're in my mouth, but OMG.. they look ...

  10. Day 300

As of today, I have been wearing my Invisalign trays for 300 days. Lots of movement has occurred, and I am nearing the end of my initial trays. My provider thinks that refinements won't be necessary, so I jut have to decide if the remaining problems are worth fixing. For example, I have a tiny 'black triangle' in between my front bottom teeth. I barely notice it, so I'm not sure it's worth putting my teeth through more IPR to fix something I'll probably forget about in a few weeks. Or they ...

  11. FINALLY! first day!

    THEY ARE FINALLY ON!!

    So happy :highly_amused:
Getting the wires on was probably the most uncomfortable thing, it hurt a fair bit, but guess what after having them on for only 5 and half hours the gap between my two front teeth is almost shut! I use to be able to put a little of my tongue in it, now i pretty much couldn't even get a safety pin between them. Because I've seen this result it just makes me positive for this whole treatment.

    There a little tender, ...

A Denture Bath is useful for soaking the trays, as it has a removable basket. You can buy a Denture Bath at any drugstore.
I like Listerine Whitening mouthwash for soaking the trays, I think it's the hydrogen peroxide & alcohol that keeps the trays clean.
I just bought some Efferdent Power Clean Crystals at Target.

  13. Moving Right Along - Tray 8

Just a quick update. Went back to the orth a couple days ago for a little more IPR and was given trays 8-15. I can't believe how much my teeth have moved in 2 months and how much more they will move in another 2 months (I am changing trays weekly using Acceledent). I will try to post some pics soon.

  14. Week 8

Just put on my fourth set of trays. I'm at work for a long (36 hour) shift so I decided to eat dinner (my last meal for the night) and then put them on after brushing and flossing.

They feel tight/pressure but it's a welcome feeling now after I adjust to the previous set.

I wish I was at the half way point but I know it will be here before I know it.

Not really much else to report! My next appointment is August 8th, I'll have more IPR done and get my ...

  15. Tray 20: Just ONE Tray's Journey From Now On!

by , 07-23-2013 at 05:45 PM (Take Two: My Second Go at a Straighter Smile)
I got back from the orthodontist a little while ago. I'm excited and happy but not really expressing it thanks to a headache I've had most of the day.

This was the longest follow-up appointment I've had. First, I told Brooke (the awesome assistant) about my concern with the gap in the tray over my top central incisor. She said she would have the orthodontist - the new, young (and cute) one I hadn't met yet - take a look and figure out what to do. Although I was a little hesitant ...
