  1. Refinement 5. Been a while!

    I've skipped posting for quite a while, so just thought I'd throw up a quick update. I'm now on 5/13 of my refinements. Things are slow and steady. I guess if I'd have kept up my original habit of taking pictures, I might see some more things going on. I can definitely feel the changes though, and am starting to see things moving into their 'refined' alignment.

  2. Refinement 2. My take on SmartTrack

    So, it was tray change day 2 days ago. This is the first time I've actually let a blog post go for 2 days before doing it. Can you tell I'm just not into this anymore? lol
    I can't be bothered to do pics, but I'll do a few on tray 3, or my next visit. I can't really see much movement. I think we're tipping a premolar or two outward right now, so there's not much to see.

  3. Refinement 1: Sacked with another 13 sets

    I went in yesterday to pick up my first 3 refinement sets. There's 13 upper, and 8 active lowers, with the next 5 being passive. Most of the teeth that had attachments to start with, have them again in some form, only this time I also got one ittty bitty one on an upper lateral. I hate it. There's a ton of excess material around it, as well as a few others this time, where my first round they were all very cleanly done. I'm going to try and get used to it until my next visit, but it's really aggravating ...

  4. Now better (sort of) and attachment free (for now)!

    Well then... another hurdle cleared. I'm done with my initial treatment! And I have no more little pointy bits of composite attached to my teeth! That's definitely the best part.

    Any if any newbies are reading this, yes, I think invisalign is awesome. Don't mind all the horror stories, or the negative side that I'm about to spew out, my mouth is still a work in progress. In 19 trays, I never once had one that was unbearably painful, I had no attachments pop off, my teeth stayed on ...

  5. The bitter sweet end (tray 19/19!)

    At long last, I have my elusive final set of trays that the doc didn't want to give me, insisting that I go in every 2 weeks for the last 3 sets.

    In just one tray, I've seen monumental progress on my lowers, and in the last 24 hours since having tray 19 in, they are straight! OMG I never thought I'd see the day. There's a few things that can't be fixed, and if you look carefully at the pics below, I actually have one missing premolar on one side, so the midline will never be right. ...

  6. One more to go!! 18/19

    Went in for the usual 2 minute visit this morning.

    Has anyone else, near the end of their first round, had visits every tray change? I'd been getting the usual 3-4 sets and appointments every 6-8 weeks to go in. the last 3 trays though, she's wanted to see me every, single time just to look in there, and go 'ooh, ahh' at my progress. ARGH. Today, I left with NO trays in hand, as she decided to hold #19 hostage there. I'm hoping this means that she's considering skipping 19 and going ...
  7. 17/19!! The end is near!!

    So, another quick visit yesterday, only a month after my last one. It seems now for 18-19, the doc wants to see me for each tray to keep a close watch on how things are going as round 1 comes to a close. Ugh, what a pain. But given some of the stories I've read, I'm happy that my case is being followed closely, rather than being brushed off. But I just want to be on to 19 already!! Argh!! lol but this tray will be the one that sees me into my final 30 days.

  8. Tray 16, and Its playoff season!!

    It's a very exciting time. I just put in tray 16, and you can clearly see the widening of my lower arch on my photos. Sooo close, yet so far it seems. 3 more after this one, so less than 2 months to go!!

    I find it an amusing coincidence that I popped in number 16, the day the playoffs start. 16 teams fighting a war to a cup. Which, coincidentally, will be awarded just around the same time as I get going on my last of the first round of my own little fight against crooked teeth. ...
  9. 15! And some new toys

    Had a quick visit today to pick up 15-17. I was a bit disappointed that she wanted to see me again before giving me 18 and 19. I asked, but was told that "This is where it gets tricky, so I want to see you again." Urgh. I just want to be finished! Things have been flawless (touch wood) all the way along, and I was even complimented that I am a 'very compliant patient'. I fessed up to letting my wear time drop in the 2nd week of each tray, and she gave me a nasty look. Oh well, no harm ...

  11. Snowy visit, and lucky 13

    Into the teens!
    Not as exciting as my tray 12 post, but meh.
    I brought up the fact that my upper incisors aren't in the middle of my face. They're only off by less than 1mm, but it's bugging me. She doesn't want to start talking refinements just yet, but is going to look back at my original photos from my consultation to see if that's where they were, or if they've moved since.   13. Tray 11. Go away tray 10, you fiend!

    Oh the itchiness!!

    Tray 10 was horrid. Seriously, I wish I could take you, throw you in the coffee grinder, chop you up and throw your disembodied bits into the river. There's no way there would be any proof. Not even the writers on CSI could figure out a way to catch me. GO AWAY!

    I've never felt that itchiness so much. As with every tray, there was no pain. Not even the first morning i woke up with it. Just itchy. How the %#*! can teeth feel itchy?? I almost went and ...

  14. Halfway exactly!

    Today officially marks my halfway point for my initial invisalign treatment.
    133 days in, and 133 days to go.

    Sadly, I've been way too busy the last week or so to really reflect on it. I've learned a lot, especially from the folks around here sharing their anecdotes, and more importantly, the things they've come up with in their own research.

  15. My math fail, checkup, follow-up, and tray 10. Double digits!

    Alright, so all you smart people, why didn't you tell me?
    My last blog post, I was all excited about my 1/2 way point happening during tray 9. Afterall, 9.5 x 2 = 19. Right?


    I realized this as I was laying in bed one night, contemplating the glacial pace of one particular tooth. That only works if the numbering starts at 0, and doesn't account for the fact that once I DO get to 19, I still have to wear the thing for 2 weeks. For the not so mathematically ...
