Take Two: My Second Go at a Straighter Smile

Between 1995 and 1998, I had a metal mouth - at that wonderful time of my life that society now dubs the "pre-teen" or "tween" years. After getting my braces off, faithfully wore my retainer - until it stopped fitting. Over a decade later, and my teeth have shifted to the point where I'm concerned of more shifting and the difficulty it takes to floss between certain teeth, due to crowding issues.

In walks an idea... an idea of Invisalign. I wasn't sure - the money? The effort? But I decided to take the plunge. I never thought I'd get braces again at 27, but Invisalign is definitely a different kind of braces. No more metal mouth. Removable (though not as easy as the commercials make it appear).

This is a documentation of my journey with Invisalign. I'm sure it will have its ups and downs, but all worth it in the end!

  1. Moving my blog...

So, the site isn't as vibrant as it was last year, and seems the site itself has had its technical issues... but I still want to blog my journey and show the photographic progress of my teeth. So I copied my prior entries and saved my photos off-site. I made a new entry about Tray 30, so feel free to pop on over and check it out (though it's not terribly exciting, haha)

I'll still check out the boards though :)

  2. Tray 29!

by , 12-13-2013 at 04:24 PM (Take Two: My Second Go at a Straighter Smile)
Okay, so I let time get away from me. I'm over halfway done with Tray 29, and just now talking about it. Haha.

The usual soreness but nothing special.

The orthodontist appointment, well, I talked about last entry (refinements are coming sooner than I thought!!!) but I also had more IPR done. It was a little rougher between a couple of the teeth, but the others already had plenty of space. I still can't tell when I look in the mirror where it was done... which is ...

  3. The R-Word!!!!

by , 12-03-2013 at 11:12 PM (Take Two: My Second Go at a Straighter Smile)
As I'm writing this, I'm supposed to change to Tray 29 tonight but haven't done so yet (ordered a pizza to have a late dinner... would've done so earlier, but ended up having a 2-hour phone conversation with a very dear friend of mine). ANYWAY I am so excited that I couldn't wait to post about it. I'll do the obligatory "Tray 29" post later to update about pain/movement/etc.

So what is this news? I had my orthodontist appointment today. Was given Trays 29-32. Had my ...

Not too much to update on! Changed to Tray 28 on Tuesday night. A little soreness, but thankfully not as much as Tray 27! Still not tracking completely right, but at least they still mainly fit... so I may be able to avoid mid-course correction and can just do refinements after. My next appointment is a week from Tuesday.

Can't believe Thanksgiving is almost here, which means the holiday season is coming soon. I haven't even done any Christmas shopping yet! Ha. I feel like ...

  5. Tray 27

Oops, I forgot to update! I've had my new trays for over a week (so halfway done with this tray) and I've neglected an update. Sorry about that :) Though I doubt many people are reading this, haha. Well, if there's a few that are keeping up, (all two of you) then here ya go ;)

Tray 27 started off quite painful. From what I remember with the Clincheck, now that my formerly-crooked right lateral incisor is in line with my central incisors and left lateral incisor, those four teeth ...

Nearing the end... slowly but surely! I can't believe that next Tuesday will mark ONE YEAR in Invisalign!!!!

So I had my checkup this past Tuesday. It was a little different, because my usual assistant was gone (on vacation), I was in a different chair, and the original orthodontist saw me (versus the newer one, who saw me the last two times). I got that attachment off (whoo! that tooth feels SO smooth), and a little bit of IPR (though that was SHORT and sweet! Apparently there ...

I feel like I haven't been on this site much lately, partly due to life and partly due to the malware hacking that gave me some trojans on my computer (which thankfully were taken care of before any damage, from what I can tell... but how crazy! Who'd want to hack a website about teeth anyway??!!)

Anyway, I switched to Tray 25 last Tuesday night. A little soreness but not much. I really think the chewies help a lot with the pain and settling my teeth in, so the gap isn't looking ...

I changed my top tray Tuesday night. Not too much pain the next day, though some soreness of course. The tray is getting easier to take off around that lateral incisor with the attachment (that comes off after Tray 25, yay!).

It's hard to really see changes right now, though I can kind of see where my four front teeth are moving forward, and after that attachment comes off, those four teeth will move back into place. Well, if they move according to plan anyway :)

Yesterday, I had my orthodontist appointment. My boyfriend was still visiting (I had a 4-day weekend) so he went with me, though waited in the waiting room when I went back. But that must've been the longest I've had to sit in the waiting room! Not counting the first appointment, the appointment I had IPR done, or the last appointment which added an attachment - they only take 10 minutes, tops. I guess the assistant was busy with someone else when I arrived? Well, my boyfriend and I got to ...

Life has been busy, so I didn't get to post an update sooner. I changed trays (no, TRAY, gotta remember it's singular now) last Tuesday night. A little soreness but not bad. There is still a gap between the bottom of one of my central incisors and the tray, but oh well. It doesn't look worse, at least.

    Here's my top teeth now:

  11. Tray 21: Blackjack!

by , 08-10-2013 at 12:16 PM (Take Two: My Second Go at a Straighter Smile)
Isn't Blackjack the card game you play to 21? Yeah, thought it'd be funny to incorporate that into my subject title :)

So now I'm at Tray 21. I changed into it Tuesday night. Didn't realize it until a week or two ago, but I had scheduled my 6-month dental checkup this past Wednesday. The MORNING after changing my top tray. The teeth were a little sore - which, I admit, made me feel better because they didn't really get sore on Tray 20 - but the appointment went fine.

  12. Tray 20: Just ONE Tray's Journey From Now On!

by , 07-23-2013 at 06:45 PM (Take Two: My Second Go at a Straighter Smile)
I got back from the orthodontist a little while ago. I'm excited and happy but not really expressing it thanks to a headache I've had most of the day.

This was the longest follow-up appointment I've had. First, I told Brooke (the awesome assistant) about my concern with the gap in the tray over my top central incisor. She said she would have the orthodontist - the new, young (and cute) one I hadn't met yet - take a look and figure out what to do. Although I was a little hesitant ...

  13. Tray 19: A Milestone Has Arrived!

by , 07-13-2013 at 07:01 PM (Take Two: My Second Go at a Straighter Smile)
I have been super busy, so forgive for the slightly-late post. Between adopting two little dogs, work, and school, I haven't had much time to be on here except to occasionally lurk, let alone write up a post!

I changed to Tray 19 on Tuesday night. This is a HUGE milestone because it marks halfway through my first round of treatment AND is my last bottom tray! I cannot believe how far I've come in less than 9 months!

    My top teeth.

I changed trays Tuesday night like usual. Some pain on the bottom teeth at the beginning (usually the pain doesn't start until the next day) but nothing too bad or eventful. The chewies definitely help.

Here's my picture as of this morning, starting the second full day of the trays:

  15. Tray 17

by , 06-12-2013 at 11:47 PM (Take Two: My Second Go at a Straighter Smile)
I know I just updated with a video yesterday, but now that I've got acquainted with Tray 17, I wanted to share a quick post (as promised!).

I put in the new trays last night. Uneventful, really. Not the easiest trays to put on but not the hardest. But I will say the chewies have been a worthy investment. Before, I'd use my fingers and thumbs to make sure the trays settled down. Now I just use the chewies. And if I'm home, I chew on it after putting the trays back on. It's a ...
