  1. My removable retainers

Finally my tongue is healed and I'm coping with these most of the time.

I estimate I'm wearing them about nine hours during my 'awake' time, plus through the night. Night time wear is amazingly easy!

My favourite is still my bonded retainers and I'm so looking forward to the time when I can leave the removable retainers in my ensuite bathroom, so it's night time wear only!

  2. The area under my tongue is sore ...

I loathe my lower clear retainer ...

I think I've used more salt in salt rinses than during my entire treatment! I have a row of mouth sores under my tongue from it rubbing on an inside edge on the lower retainer. I've smoothed the retainer, but these sores don't like spicy foods ... which I love ... or much else that I like. The warm salt water rinses make my mouth feel amazing ... but then I eat ... and ... well my mouth is sore again!

    Shame the bonded retainers

  3. My bonded retainers!

I love these tiny pieces of gold! They have a huge job to do and I hope they do it for a long time! I've not got my clear aligner type retainers yet ... but these are so easy, I was used to them within 24 hours!

  4. My new look ...

I'm so thrilled with my results!

My teeth are worn and come from a time when getting fillings every time you went to the dentist was expected ... but I'm just thrilled with my final results.

  5. Finally ... the metal is mostly gone!

    After 5 years, 11 months and 2 days ... they're off!

At the end of work today it was my turn and I was really nervous. I was experiencing irrational thoughts, like maybe my teeth would fall out, that there'd be nasty stains ... but it was easy and great!

First one of my assistants bonded gold wires on the back of my upper six teeth and lower eight teeth. Next a quick turn with the pliers and out came the upper and lower brackets all attached to the archwire with powerchains

  6. Finally ... I have great news!

The end is close and I should have naked teeth for this summer holiday. I was kinda worried about writing this, as it feels like I'm tempting fate ... but this time I know it's really going to happen. :clapping:

My x-ray show that the roots of my teeth are where they need to be and can't be moved any further in the jaw bone. My right side has a great bite, but my left side just isn't going to make it ... but I'm ok with that, as my jaw is feeling great and I'm happy to do my chewing

  7. Photos and update - 7 elastics!

    These things are totally horrid!

I managed to wear them -
    - 4 hours on Thursday
    - 19 hours (10 hr, 9 hr) on Friday
    - 19 hours (9 hr, 10 hr) on Saturday

... I'm not counting Thursday ... as that's when I got them, but Friday was a holiday and Saturday's the 'real' weekend ... so both days are short by 3 hours. I can't work out how I'm going to fit that extra 3 hours in ... plus if I decide to have a life (like go off my property) ... I'm not sure ...

  8. Elastics to try and move and close my bite ...

Finally it was my turn to have 'chair time' on Thursday.

After the usual umming and arring ... my ortho announced that my braces must come off soon ... they've been on far too long ... like this is news to me! Anyway he's unhappy that my bite is still open (which happened during treatment ... it was closed in the beginning) and that my upper teeth are so far to the right. He said without surgery these things (and a few others) cannot be corrected properly, but they need to be improved. ...

My bite appears to be even more open, which is frustrating. My ortho assures me this is more of the 'it gets worse before it gets better' stuff ...

  12. Week 170 - Adjustment 23

My ortho is happy that my upper right gap, over the impacted canine is continuing to close. :clapping:

He's not so happy that my bite is still open and appears to be catching on a back molar, right side. :(

Powerchains were removed and both archwires removed and more bends put in on the right side.

New purple powerchains and I'm to continue with the same elastic configeration - Size 3/16".

  13. Buccal molar bracket is gone ...

Frustrating ... I've been getting loads of progress on my upper right side. The frustrating part, is that I don't think my ortho was expecting movement to be this quick, and pressed the end of archwire between my first and second molars ... so today, the pressure of the 'bending' archwire got to be too much for the buccal molar bracket on my first molar ... and 'ping' ... it came off.

I'm not going to work tomorrow as my hubby has a couple of important appointments with his oncology ...

  15. Week 150 - Adjustment 22

My Ortho was happy as the gap over my impacted canine is showing signs of closing. Awesome news!!! :clapping:

He removed my ligs and archwires and made many bends in both the upper and lower archwires before putting them back in, taking them out, more bends ... repeat, repeat, repeat. He kept checking my bite, which is still open and only meets on the right - second molars. He's trying to get my bite to close, while also working to finishing closing the gap! Finally when he was ...
