Braces For Kids

A part of a child’s life involves going to the local orthodontist for a consultation on their teeth.  This usually happens when the child’s adult teeth have just about all grown in, however it is good caution to go in much earlier if you feel your child may have a mild to severe issue such as a bite problem.  You will usually receive a referral or notice from you family dentist.  The dentist has enough experience to know when a child is ready for braces and will usually have several doctors to recommend.  Browse our orthodontist directory for a local orthodontist near you.

The average cost of braces for kids ranges from $1800 to $3200 depending on the type of braces.  Most children don’t opt for the invisible type braces such as Invisalign, however by requesting these types of treatments the price goes up significantly.

While most children are worried if braces hurt, it is really not a big deal and most children report very little pain.  The initial tightening and banding of the braces might be the most pain received from the treatment, however it is very short lived and never a reason to end treatment early.

The average time a child wears braces is 24 months.  While this varies from case to case, an orthodontist can establish a plan of action initially and highly execute it over a period of 2 years.  If more complex cases where the jaw may need to be widened by adding a palatal expander, this will add time to the treatment.
