Brushing With Orthodontic Braces
The importance of tooth brushing for kids and adults with braces is vital.
There are special toothbrushes available that makes brushing around the brackets of braces a bit easier. The toothbrush has the middle of the brush cut lower to fit around the brackets.
You want to start with the use of a small amount of toothpaste. The bristles of the toothbrush should meet where the gums and teeth are.
You then want to use circular or up and down motions that vibrated around the gum lines for about 12 seconds each tooth. This will brush away and keep the exposed part of the tooth clean and free from plaque.
Brush very slowly around each and every bracket of your teeth. You will also want to brush your tongue and upper mouth too, as you will want to keep your entire mouth clean and cool.
The recommended amount of brushing is after each meal and once before you go to sleep at night. We recommend rinsing your mouth thoroughly with a strong mouth wash to help keep the gums clean and prevent gingivitis.
