Causes and Ways to Curb Bad Breath

Halitosis in layman's term means offensive breath, or bad breath as a more common connotation. Bad breath can be a concern than one could ever think, but it is still controllable.

There are a lot of reasons why a person acquires bad breath. Sleeping causes bad breath, so brush your teeth upon waking up. And it's not even your fault! Ain't it? Learning the causes and how to prevent bad breath can save you from the social embarrassment as well as fear that people will smell the unpleasant stinking odor that comes out from your mouth. Here are some easy practical ways:

  • Always keep the mouth clean. Our mouth is one of the most sordid places of the body that becomes a refuge of bacteria. After eating, brush the teeth and then gargle with mouthwash, too.
  • If your someplace without a toothbrush with you, rinse the mouth with water.
  • Flossing is a huge factor. Whatever debris brushing has missed between the teeth, floss it.
  • Use a tongue scraper to clean the tongue. Odor-causing bacteria also tend to be camping on the tongue and can be a source of unpleasant odors.
  • Another cause can be your eating habits. If you suspect having bad breath, avoid foods such as tuna, onions and garlic. These foods can aggravate the scent of your breath. Munch on parsley; it's a great breath freshener. Eat more vegetables and fruits such as carrots, celery, apple, berries, citrus fruits, melons and foods rich in vitamin C. Drink a lot of water. These foods produce an environment that bacteria hate to dwell. For people on a diet, there is such a thing as hunger breath, so do everything in moderation.  The active culture found in yogurt decreases the amount of odor-causing hydrogen sulfide. Cut down on sweets.
  • The bad cigarette habit. Instead of smoking, have green tea.  It is known to fight cavities that come from bacteria.
  • Make trips to a dentist to help with your dental needs. His one dental professional who is equipped with tools and proper dental treatment, and that includes bad breath.
  • Keep cups, silverwares and every thing that is being put in the mouth, as these are things where bacteria find it favorable to harbor.
  • For a non-permanent fix, have gum, breath spray or mints handy.

Get real! No one will want to talk with somebody who's got a smelly breath. The only way to curb bad breath is to get down to what's causing it head on. It’s something that you don't have to deal with your whole life, but it's something that you can’t stop from having. And the good news is that there's always a cure for all causes that gives your breath a bad smell.
