Cleaning Retainers

When you first get your braces off, you are immediately put into retainers that you must where throughout the day and night.  There are currently two different types of retainers.  The old – traditional retainers are widely used as they can be adjusted as needed.

The clear retainers are more modern as they are virtually invisible and do a good job of holding your teeth in place.

Whichever retainers you are using, you will find that you need to clean them daily.  When sleeping plaque may build up on your retainer and this is why we recommend cleaning your retainers in the morning.  You can brush them just like you do your teeth.

Ask your orthodontist if they can recommend cleaning solutions for your retainers that they may keep in the office.

It is best to keep on top of cleaning your retainers as you want them to last for as long as possible and not cause your breath to be bad.
