Clear Upper Braces Cleaning

Many orthodontists give patients the option to go with clear ceramic braces on the upper teeth as these teeth show quite a bit more in the averages persons smile.  The traditional metal braces are used on the bottom and usually hidden when a person talks and/or smiles.

If you are wearing ceramic clear braces on top, you should make a conscious effect to keep them clear.  The involves cleaning them and brushing more than usual, as these braces can turn a yellowish color from drinking beverages such as cola or eating foods with coloring in them.

It is also recommended that you go to your dentist in half the normal time for a cleaning.  While you are limited to the type of cleaning you get, it is still much better than nothing and only helps.

Doing whitening treatments with the braces is not a good idea and one should wait until the braces are off.  By whitening now, you will not get the entire tooth whitening and it will look stained when the brackets come off.  Using whitening toothpaste is ok for now, but we recommend a good electric toothbrush such as the Rota Dent and a fluoride to help keep your teeth in tip top shape.

We can also never stress enough the important of flossing while wearing braces.  Gingivitis is known to creep up on patients with braces due to the difficulty of flossing.  We recommend you floss at least twice daily and always rinse with a mouthwash directly after eating.
