Correcting Midline Crossbite With Braces

Many people have a slight imperfection in their midline which is the line where the two top teeth and two bottom teeth lineup.  When this midline is severely off center, a cross bite exist and can usually be fixed with braces.

While braces alone are usually enough to fix a midline or severe crossbite, sometimes additional methods such as removing teeth are used.  In any case a midline that is slightly off center hardly a big deal.  In several cases, uses who have had braces may still find that that midline is not exactly on center.

With the use of braces, power chains, and rubber bands, your orthodontist can pull the midline into place.  This is usually done in conjunction with straightening the teeth.  When users come into an orthodontist office with just a slightly off midline, they may be recommended to leave it and it is not worth the long period of braces for just a hair of movement.

If your crossbite is severe enough that you are having trouble chewing, speaking, etc. than you should consult several orthodontists on the correct path to take.  Tom Cruise had braces recently and was said that his midline was off and had a severe crossbite.  After getting the braces off, his cross bite was said to be considerably fixed, however his midline was not perfectly aligned.
