Dating With Braces

Dating and meeting new people can be a challenge for some and easy for others.  Straight, healthy, and white teeth always seem to offer a pleasant presence when one smiles at a stranger.

Getting braces is usually a personal decision and can help build confidence which shows when you are dating.   Wearing the braces while dating is not as big of a deal as one may think.   People have said that they are less likely to date when wearing braces and prefer to prolong dating until they get them off.   

We asked several women how they would feel about dating a man that was wearing braces.  We got the same basic answer from all the women.  They expressed that the braces are not a big deal and that they commend him for getting his teeth fixed.   One woman even told us that she fell for a man with braces and it never hindered her feelings at all.

Some rules of thumb when wearing braces and dating:

• Take extra care to keep your braces clean.  
  Brush and floss daily and quickly after a meal while on a date.  Once the woman gets more comfortable you may consider slacking just a little bit, but it is good hygiene to keep your braces and mouth clean.

• Don’t try and hide your braces.  
  We have seen people that hide their braces by trying not to smile or talking awkwardly.    This is a confidence issue and you can get more comfortable wearing braces around your friends first if you need to.   Don’t be shy about wearing braces.  As many have said it is really no big deal and kudos to you for working on yourself before jumping into a relationship.

• Openly talk about your braces.
  By conveying to your date why you are wearing braces, than you are making good conversation and keeping the date very natural.  You can joke with your date and through in some banter, but showing the real you is always a good thing.

• If wearing Invisalign Type Braces, Don't take Them Out In Front Of Date
  Invisalign type aligners and retainers usually hold quite a bit of saliva and can gross your date out, especially if they are not familiar with them.  Excuse yourself and go to the bathroom, or take them out on your ride to your date.  
  

Wearing braces while dating won’t hinder you success.  You will find that the small period of wearing the braces flies by and when they are off that you will be even more confident and flashing your pearly whites all over town!
