Eating Corn On The Cob With Braces

When wearing braces there are certain foods that you will most likely have to do without.  Corn on the cob may be one of them, although soft bites you may be able to get away with it.  We recommend you use a knife to cut the corn right off the cob and onto your plate, you may then proceed to eat with a fork or spoon.

You will find that the corn will get stuck in your braces brackets and it will take brushing and rinsing to get your brackets free of the corn.

Other foods such as tough meats, baby back ribs, hard candies, gum, are all food you want to stay away from while wearing braces.  While you may not think breaking brackets is a big deal, it is actually adding to your treatment time.

When a bracket breaks you have to schedule an appoint to be re-bracketed.  In this time you are not getting the full benefits of braces as you are missing an anchor or an important piece of your orthodontic treatment.  By knocking off brakets, you are not getting the fastest braces treatment.

If you must have these foods, we recommend you take it very slowly and take small bites.
