My Invisalign Journey (aka my 2nd time around with braces)

Tray 17 - Good/Not-so-good

Rate this Entry
I haven't been able to post an update since Tray 15. There has been so much going on at home. Unfortunately, my father-in-law passed away. He was taken to the emergency room with heart failure right after I posted my last blog post. He was in the hospital for 2 weeks, but there was nothing further they could do for him, so he was sent to hospice. He made a wonderful rebound while he was there and had more energy than I've seen him have in months, which was wonderful. We got to spend a great 2 weeks together before he passed. He wasn't bed ridden, he wasn't in pain and he didn't suffer. He woke up at 2 AM a few weeks ago and said he wanted a chocolate cupcake. The nurse got him one and he was happily eating it. She went to get him a glass of milk and when she came back with the milk, he had passed. It was that quick. We are so grateful for the time we had with him at the hospice and I have a new found respect for how healthcare workers in that field do their job. I always thought it would be very depressing to work in a hospice, but it's not as dreary as I imagined it would be. They give people their dignity and help them face the inevitable outcome by alleviating their fears and keeping them comfortable and pain free. I was really impressed with their compassion. I'll miss my father-in-law very much. He was a sweet man and we had such great conversations about his life stories.

The week after he passed away, I started nursing school. So, my life has been VERY busy!!! I'm buried in homework and studying, but I'm loving it.

Here's an updated pic of Tray 17: Invisalign Tray 17.jpg

I don't have a comparison pic this time, because my old laptop crashed and all my previous photos are gone I haven't had a chance to restore my old files from my back-up yet. Hopefully, I can get around to it soon.

And now for the Invisalign update: my left top canine is not tracking properly. There is a noticeable gap between the bottom of my tooth and the bottom of my tray. My ortho wants me to come back in 9 weeks after I'm done with trays 17, 18, 19 & 20. He wants me to wear tray 20 for 3 weeks. He said the clincheck shows the most movement in that canine on those particular trays. If my canine doesn't move where it should be, then I will have to get a button/elastic combo to extrude the tooth.

Here's a link to the procedure to extrude the tooth: Invisalign Auxilliary Techniques

If the tooth moves into place, we will go to refinements after tray 20 is done. If not, we'll do the elastic/button extrusion with tray 21 and take it from there.

Sorry to hear about your FIL! I will say that eating a chocolate cupcake and than taking your exit sounds like a pretty good way to leave. It is nice that you got to spend those last weeks with him and he wasn't in pain or suffering. Also sorry to hear about your canine not tracking properly. Hopefully, those next few trays will get it back on track. Fingers crossed for ya! Your teeth are looking really good!

I'm so sorry to hear about your Father-in-law. My condolences are with you and your family. I'm so glad to hear he didn't have a painful exit and made a brilliant rebound. That always makes sad news a bit happier.

Sucks about your canine, hopefully it "straightens up" its act for you. But apart from that, your teeth are looking brilliant!

Wow, sorry about your father-in-law. But I guess leaving this world while eating a chocolate cupcake is one of the better ways to go.

I know what you mean about the not tracking thing, I just put up with it and moved into refinements.

Congrats on nursing school. I know you are swamped.
