Exercises to stop snoring
Snorers may be the butt of jokes, but snoring is really no laughing matter. It can not only put a strain on your relationships, but may also be the first indication of a sleep disorder called sleep apnea. Persons who suffer from sleep apnea experience obstructions in the airways that interrupt breathing, and cause them to wake up when the respiratory process is disrupted. These people have periods of wakefulness during sleep, and this can cause them to experience fatigue the next day, making it dangerous to operate vehicles or operate machinery. This disorder can be potentially fatal, if not caught and treated in time. Besides, chronic snoring is found linked to a higher incidence of cardiovascular disease, and hypertension. This is why it's so important to get treatment for snoring as soon as possible. How to stop snoring
Yoga is a time tested and effective way of treating snoring. The lion posture, which involves the working of all facial muscles, is especially effective in curbing snoring. Practice everyday for best results.
Another method that also works the facial muscles is closing your mouth and making chewing movements, as if you're chewing gum.
Smile, and often. Smiling works the muscles that can help you stop snoring. You don't have to walk around all day with a beatific grin. Simply smile a wide smile at least five times a day, and hold it for about five seconds each time.
Bite a pencil in between your teeth. Make sure you don’t bite too hard or too gently.
Obesity can result in several health problems including snoring. Fat accumulated in the neck could make you snore. A weight loss program that includes a balanced low fat diet and daily exercise can help you lose weight, and treat your snoring problem in the bargain.
The "spoon and tongue battle" is also an effective exercise to treat snoring. Place a spoon on your tongue, and press it. Let the tongue win once and then the spoon. This exercise works to stop snoring by strengthening the muscles. Do this exercise for about two minutes every time.
Open your mouth wide, and slowly close it, bringing your lips together.
Purse your lips as you would if you were drinking from a straw, and then hold for 5 seconds. Repeat at least five times.
Press your chin for three minutes. Don’t be too gentle or too hard on the chin when you apply pressure to it. However, don’t press your chin for more than three minutes at a time.
Yawn repeatedly. Pretend that you're yawning and hold it for 10 seconds.
We left the best for last. Try kissing. You don’t even need a partner –all you have to do is blow a kiss and hold your mouth in that position all you need to do is blow a kiss, but you must hold for five seconds. Repeat five times.
The exercises are so simple, and must be treed before you try any quick fix snoring exercises. Also, don’t judge the effectiveness of any exercise without doing it regularly for at least two to four weeks. None of these exercises are quick fixes, and will have to be continued for a while before you can see results.
