Foods To Avoid While Wearing Braces

If you are going through braces treatment, than your diet will have to change slightly so that you don’t break any brackets or appliances in your mouth.  The most obvious foods to stay away from are the hard and sticky foods.  Gum, Candy, Chocolate Bars, etc are some of the foods you are going to want to stay away from.  Not only will they get stuck in your brackets, but they also can cause tooth decay.  While wearing braces your hygiene regimen should be rather intense and more focused than the naked tooth.

It is very important to check your braces after eating questionable foods.  It also makes sense to check your brakes daily for loose wires or anything out of the ordinary that you see.  If something is poking you, in most cases you can use wax to cover it up until the next adjustment.  However if it looks to be serious, you should call your orthodontist right away and have them fix the problem.  They have allotted time appointments for cases like this and they expect that not every patient will be smooth sailing.  So take advantage and keep your braces in top shape.

Some other foods to stay away from include baby back ribs, hard steak, bagels, corn on the cob, hard tacos, potato chips, raw hard vegetables, hard candies, etc.  We understand some of these foods might be tough to cut out of your diet, but it is important to not damage your braces as you are prolonging your treatment time.  If you are looking for the fastest braces treatment, than follow a strict diet to ensure that your braces and teeth stay in optimal condition during the treatment.
