In the adult world, you don't need to be concerned about your orthodontist reacting to 'silly talk', if he should hear it. Your orthodontist is a trained professional and as such would never intentional 'mess' with your teeth.

About the Z steps. Ask your ortho what these will do to your teeth and then if you need more information, ask why you need them. Mostly tweaking like this, results in small movement to help your teeth/bite fit together in a better way. This Z step doesn't sound like it will make a space, but more like it may improve your alignment. I look forward to hearing how your ortho describes it to you.

I trust my orthodontist (sort of). But I have heard of orthodontists messing up mouths. Well I found something about it (link:
Z-bend orthodontic instrument and method - Patent 6293791) I was right that it was Z shaped. Wrong that it would create a gap. But I am now worried that the tooth might be rotated wrong (come on mariah, trust the ortho!). I'll ask what that is supposed to do for sure
