March 4, 2010 Met with Doctor John j. Marchetto, D.M.D. to discuss TMJ symptoms and fixing my bite. I am equally concerned with my Class 3 Bite Occlusion as I am with the TMJ symptoms I am having. A friend and past patient referred me to the doctor (she had jaw surgery). Initially I was impressed with the office and the easy check in system via computer along with a short wait time. The doctor really had his practice fine-tuned and as a businessman I can tell when someone takes ...
Yesterday, July 29 2010 was my fourth adjusmtent. I was looking forward to my appointment 'cause I wanted to see what part of my treatment came next. I was expecting rubber bands at this appointment because after reading so many blogs and posts it seemed as if this was the time to get them, but I didn't. I had a powerchain on my lower six fron teeth and it was taken off at this appointment. My ortho checked my x-rays from my prior visit and said my roots looked healthy. It's always good to know ...
Today I had my retainer fitted to expand my top pallet. Within an hour my mouth and face started aching. I suffered from a sore head for the day too. Pain killers didn't seem to do much to help either. I have constantly been slevering and find it very difficult to eat. Ive stuck to soft bread, soup and banana for today, hopefully tomorrow I will be able to eat more. I have been lisping all day too, which is really embarrassing lol Ive been told this will ease after ...
I seem to be adjusting pretty well. I used a fair amount of wax on the bands and on the couple of brackets with hooks, but I haven't used any on those today and all seems okay. Front teeth are sore but tolerable. I'm getting used to eating again. I found grapes have been great...I need to use just enough force to get them to burst open that I'm working the jaw but not enough to cause pain. The only thing I didn't expect was that my tongue was going to have some irritation ...
I'm finally back to the stage where I don't notice my braces until eating. It happened much faster than I expected it would this time around and that's good. Also, I'm going home on Sun. for 2 weeks so I won't be on here again until Aug. 14 (Mom only has dial-up so I probably can't access this site on her computer.)
I just returned from a business trip to Germany, during which I had to start trays 2/15. My concerns leading up to this trip ranged from "what happens if I break/lose all of my trays and I can't get to my dentist?" to "do I really have to brush my teeth multiple times in an airplane bathroom?" Turns out that it wasn't so bad. I did delay my new trays by one day, because I knew I would have them out a little longer than I should due to a big party on my scheduled ...
Eww two fillings on the back teeth! ...

I went to go and get a expander in. It doesn't hurt me at all when I turn the key, call me weird but I actually like the way it feels. Eating is another story though haha. And the instant lisp I got when it was put in, but I guess I just need to talk more to get use to it. I have an appointment next month now to get braces on, a couple days before school starts too, guess people will ask me about it the first week of school.
Finally! I've only been waiting 20 years.... All went pretty well. I did lose a couple of spacers and that made the banding more difficult for a couple of teeth...hurt like heck, actually. But they are feeling better now. I got bands on top and bottom but he only did brackets and wire on the top for now. About to try to eat something for the first time...should be fun!
The teeth in the top right quadrant are not as sensitive as they were last week but now the bottom back molars are letting me know they are around. I figure now that my bite has changed/roots are being moved, I am bound to feel something. This calls for ice cream - that's my excuse and I am sticking to it. 3 weeks to my next adjustment.
Yes at 10.30 this morning they came off, not without a fight! It was mighty painful getting the metal brackets off, the ceramic ones just shattered. The worst bit for me was the removal of the cement. I then had a good old clean and polish and got my retainers 20 mins later and that's it. I cant talk in my retainers yet and my teeth are still not feeling stable but really I look like a different person. Good luck to everyone and know that the end does ...
Hi Everyone! I haven't posted anything in a while, but it seems as though everything is going well. I have my first adjustment next week (8 week appt) and I am getting nervous. On one hand, time has gone by very quickly and I can't believe it's almost been 2 months since I got my braces. On the other hand, I am dreading the pain I felt for the first week and the inability to eat real food. At least I have a frame of reference this time, and know that it will not last forever I ...
First of all, it seems like it's been a week since I posted...not 2 days! After these new braces went on, I wanted to scream because my bite was totally off and that's what was hurting. Today while I was at work, I noticed that the teeth in one of the areas where I could bite (with much pain, granted) didn't hurt as bad. I figured those teeth finally moved just enough to ease up the pain. I still have some pain in that area and a lot in the other area. I hope my bite gets better fast ...
My name is Liz. I'm a 25 year old New Yorker, and I'm about to go through a dental transformation. I hope to use this blog to chronicle my journey - the good, the bad and the ugly. It's going to be a longgg trip. I have a long set of work and procedures ahead of me: * <s>get my records done for braces</s> * <s>get all necessary dental work done</s> * get wisdom teeth out (ouch) * get braces put on (18 months!) ...
I had my appointment with my ortho for the first time since I got my first set of powerchains. Yes I asked at least 16 questions to the assistant and to my ortho. First question I asked was that I was noticing that my front gap isn't doing ANY movement which was pretty disheartening since the rest of my teeth have seen some improvement. She assured me that since I have a tooth on my upper right side that was rotated 90 degrees in the wrong direction that we have to turn it the right ...
