Starting my braces journey in a couple of weeks!

  1. 3 months in

well My calander reminded me it was 3 months since I had the braces on over the weekend.

I've got my next appointment this friday - there is a little it of movement since my last post. Namely some gaps here and there. The tooth that has turned around is still to come down yet but its nice and straight.

I've finally got back into pole dancing (& the gym since they go together really) but so far i hurt my wrsit and rotator cuff and its only been one week of lessons. ...

  2. yay for some movement

by , 07-09-2011 at 02:01 AM (Amandas little journey for straight teeth @ 26!)
Well it's 2 months and 1 week. I had my first proper adjustment, he put a thicker square wire on the bottom (not sure about the top) and power chains top & bottom. I could feel the pressure in the chair as we was tightening so KNEW it was gonna hurt later. But I still managed to go out with friends to a brazillian resturant (read: Meat central) and ate somewhat a normal amount of food.

Ortho took progress photos - he said there had been enough movement already to warrant some ...

  3. 1 month in, minimal progress

by , 05-31-2011 at 09:51 PM (Amandas little journey for straight teeth @ 26!)
Well it's only been 1&1/2 month in my lowers & 1 month in my uppers and i've been in discomfort but nothing major. Mostly eating semi-properly.

All I have noticed is that the gap on my LRHS seems to be smaller than the gap on the LLHS - that's it.

So i'm feeling a uninspired. I have my first 'adjustment' (because he never adjusted the bottom ones last time) appointment on the 25th June, which is the day after my birthday. And by the it will be almost 2+ months ...

  4. Linguals suck LOL

by , 04-30-2011 at 03:28 AM (Amandas little journey for straight teeth @ 26!)
So I've just got back home from getting my linguals on.

    That was a long appointment!

I wasn't able to find much info on HOW they put linguals on to prepare, so here is a short run down:

(some small bits & technical aspects missed, and just FYI I'm a huge wuss)
    1. They scratch the teeth to give the glue a rough surface to bind too...which was a bit strange, but he did this really quickly
    2. They put the cement on and the bracket ...

  5. Lingual top braces on tomorrow

by , 04-28-2011 at 11:38 PM (Amandas little journey for straight teeth @ 26!)
Well the last couple of weeks (can't believe its already been 2!) have been pretty good since the dry sockets healed up. The ceramics on the bottom haven't given me any drama, I was in pain a little maybe for the first week as I adjusted but since the dry socket the pain seemed so minimal I didn't really notice it. This week I haven't had any pain.

Others say they don't need to use the wax at all after the first couple of weeks - but I'm pretty sure I'm going to be using it for a ...
  6. 3rd day in and 1st day back at work & questions answered (thanks Sunny)

by , 04-17-2011 at 10:58 PM (Amandas little journey for straight teeth @ 26!)
According to the helpful answers from Sunny in my last post it seems I've had my premolars out right behind my canines. I've got clear 'ligs' or maybe its a 'powerchain' (from sunny's description I think this is what I have) from the canine to the second premolar to start pulling it back into the gap as these are jutted out. He said getting this started rather than do nothing while i'm in pain with the dry sockets is best so I was happy (in my drug induced state) to go with that.

  7. Braces on, less pain, boyfriend to see them for 1st time tonight :s

by , 04-16-2011 at 08:37 PM (Amandas little journey for straight teeth @ 26!)
    Well yesterday was THE day.

I was pretty over it, I'm not a cryer but I cried pretty much all morning at home and burst into tears at the dentist AND at the ortho! And I really really despise cryin in front of people so I hated that I couldn't hold it in. But I'd really had enough of the pain and I didn't know what was going to happen at the ortho and if they were going to start the treatment or not, and that upset me... Anyway.

I went to the dentist to get all 4 ...

  8. 3 days post extraction - braces on tomorrow; but i've got infection/dry socket :(

by , 04-15-2011 at 06:54 AM (Amandas little journey for straight teeth @ 26!)
This is a re-cap of the last 3 days since my extractions on Tuesday (I was having 4 out #14 #24 #34 & #44; prior to braces)

Well, I shook the hand of the anaesthetist after I woke up on Tuesday - I was SOOO happy that I didn't remember anything and that was the main thing I was concerned about.

Basically, I walked in that morning, he took my blood pressure and ECG and said 'I'm just going to give you a little to calm your nerves' (this is before the dental tech ...

Hopefully that worked. This is from the document they sent me for my 'summary' of what they wanted to do - it has which teeth need to be removed too.

  10. jitters leading up to extraction & application

by , 04-04-2011 at 09:07 PM (Amandas little journey for straight teeth @ 26!)
Well I've been waiting a month now for the braces thing to get started.

I first went to the ortho almost two months ago and physically signed all the paper work & put down my deposit about a month ago. Then I had to go find a normal dentist to do the extractions.

I've had to wait for an appointment with the dentist for the extractions...so the earliest I could get was a month from my initial dentist check-up. Although, this is partly my fault as because I'm a massive ...
