Hello!!

I am on my 3rd day in braces, but I will go back to the day I got them on and go over my surgery.

My ortho put the brackets on 4-6, which was no big deal at all. I had my oral surgery consult scheduled for 4-7 and my actual surgery 4-8.

I had to get 4 teeth extracted..two on top and two on bottom due to overcrowding. My canines never dropped because there were teeth in the way. The teeth in the way had to come out, so the braces could push them down.

Also...My oral surgeon said he spoke to my orthodontist prior to the surgery and they discussed performing anther procedure on top of the 4 extractions. A buccal corticotomy. Basically it is an old procedure, but is way more advanced now and does not require as much surgery as it used to. They made 4 cuts into my jaw bone, so that my teeth would shift more quickly.

My orthodontist came to watch the surgery and they filmed it..they were so excited about it..being basically a new procedure. I was basically an experiment lol.

I was out under GA. They gave me nitrous oxide to calm me down. That stuff is foul..didn't like it. It felt like a restraint. My body felt heavy like I couldn't move, but my brain and mouth were still going a mile a minute.

My ortho told me the real reason he was there was to make sure they didn't knock any brackets off LOL!

Of course it took them a few tries to get my vain and then I was out.

Woke up to my orthodontist shifting my teeth around with his hands and placing the wires in my mouth. Ouch. Good thing I was still drowsy.

They helped me out to the car and when I looked in the mirror I realized they put tampons in my mouth as gauze! That made me laugh.

I really did not have much mouth pain, but I was sick as a dog.

The anastesia and the Toradol they gave me through IV..on top of the vicodin I took ASAP..on top of an empty stomach really made me feel ill. I was dry heaving the entire day..plus the blood going into my stomach. Wasn't fun, but I made it through.

There is a picture of the surgery on my ortho account online...I will have to see if I can get it on here. All I have to say is thank God for general anastesia.
