I mentioned last week that the ceramic bottoms "bump" against my top teeth when chewing. Instead of calling the doctor I've been dealing with foods I don't need to chew as much and trying to .... extend? my jaw so it doesn't happen as much.

I don't eat in front of a mirror but I imagine its not pretty.

After seeing the comments on last week's post I'm really concerned now. If metal braces on the bottom are a better option I will go for that. Unlike the top braces I hardly see the bottoms unless I pull my lip down or am at a weird leaning angle in the mirror.

I still don't understand why metal would be preferable to ceramic when it comes to chipping. I would have assumed metal was a harder material but I guess not.

In less paranoid news, I didn't sleep with wax on the bottom braces last night. There is a sore spot on the inside of one cheek but the rest of my mouth seems to have acclimated to the braces without issue. One of my bottom front teeth was moving Saturday for a few hours but I don't see a difference so I guess it was a minor adjustment. The bottoms feel very "under pressure" when I brush, otherwise there hasn't been any other pain or movement detected. The one (obviously) badly positioned tooth hasn't started moving yet so I'm eagerly awaiting that

Dietwise things have been fine. I'm back to my regular foods although I've been chewing oddly (see above regarding jaw position) and assuming it was just how I would need to chew for the next year or so. I've found foods tend to stick more with the bottom braces. Yesterday's pizza dinner resulted in a laughfest when I finally finished and went to brush.

Not much else to report - I'll definitely be calling the dentist tomorrow though. He works from a different office the rest of this month so I predict all types of vehicular mis-adventures when I go in to (hopefully) repair this bottom braces/top teeth issue.

Wish me luck :/

Anny, ceramic is much harder than stainless steel and therefore there's more chance of a tooth chipping with the ceramic brackets.

It's great you're back to eating your usual diet and hopefully your ortho can come up with a simple solution to help you feel more comfortable chewing. You may not need to have your lower brackets removed, but may need something added to prevent you biting the way you were, so that you can continue to chew without the need to extend your jaw. Good luck with your appointment!
