So...

Back in December I posted about having a small gap between my teeth on the left hand side. I saw my ortho on Wednesday and mentioned the gap to his assistant while she was setting up my files and things.

He came in, she mentioned the gap and he looked "I don't see a gap," he says.

"What!?" I ask and tongue the spot to make sure it hasn't closed on the ride over.

"Can you point it out to me?" he asked nicely.

So of course I poke it with my tongue and wait while he says the gap isn't really a gap since the teeth touch in the back and moves over his mirrors and lights.

....turns out....

Ready?

I got a PECAN FRAGMENT stuck between the two teeth and it was keeping them from moving closer!!!

*HEAD DESK*

Apparently its been there for a while (although wasn't there when I went in December or had my cleaning 3ish weeks ago) because he had to use his curved tool to poke it out then give me a mini-cleaning while I sat there with the reddest face!

I swear I've been flossing - lets face it the teeth with the gap are the easiest and get flossed first in Braces Land! I must have been pushing it down further and flossing over it all this time.

So yeah... LOL

He removed the power chains on the left side of my mouth so the gap could fully go away. Then I got silver .... gosh Sandy said what they were called a few months ago ... its a thin wire wound around my teeth to keep them from moving more on the front and right side of my top braces since that side of my bite is perfect.

I'm happy to say the gap seems to be closing in the last two days. I had some discomfort yesterday because the removal of the chain and only partial figure 8s shifted a bite that hadn't felt significant movement since last summer but it seems to be lined up now.

So the moral of the story is - when in braces and with gaps stay away from the 3 month's supply of white chocolate chip and pecan cookies your roomy baked for Christmas.

*sigh*

Life is hard

Damn ... that would be a tad embarrassing, but at least you gave the ortho something to grin about!

Sounds like you have 'lacing' to hold your teeth in place, to allow the final movements from anothe area only.

Good luck to your bite continuing to get better!
