I woke up sometime around 4am last night with the itchiest bottom gums EVER. I have one tooth that grew in at an almost 45 degree angle. Apparently my braces decided 4am on a Monday night was the perfect time to rectify this decades old issue.

So there I am in bed, trying to ignore the itching and will myself to sleep. My niece is almost a year old and I found myself wishing for one of her teething toys to help me through LOL

I went for the next best thing - a bunch of cotton! ROFL! I got up and started chewing cotton...surprisingly it worked! After less than five minutes of (very) vigorous chewing the itchiness was gone! I never had itchy gums before but I never had a tooth that would need such serious correction before either.

All I can hope is that it doesn't become a nightly thing!

How strange. I've had itchy feeling roots (although that's not really how it feels, but it's the closest thing) when my teeth are moving a lot. I'm sure it'll go away

Itchy gums can be annoying, but at least you know this is in response to something else happening, and usually it's after teeth have moved, and some healing is going on.

Rinsing the mouth with warm salt water, chewing on sugar free gum and gentle gum, massaging with a soft childs toothbrush ... can all help.

Hopefully the itching doesn't last long ... and if it should, I think you need to call your orthodontist or dentist, as it may be the result of something else. I've seen itching that was caused due to an allergy to products we use at work ... latex gloves being one problem, but mostly these allergies have swelling as well as itching.

Hope your mouth is feeling heaps better now!
