Unscheduled Tightening

I saw my regular ortho today even though I wasn't scheduled to come in this month. I made the appointment a few weeks ago when I was concerned about the possible chipping although I've "more or less" gotten used to eating without really closing my jaw.

He shaved down the side brackets a little which made it more comfortable and said if he moved the brackets down the teeth would get pulled out and look uneven. By this point I'm so used to it that I didn't really question.

I have one bottom tooth that is very angled and he seems to be very interested in. Its been righting itself this month but today he wrapped a metal ligature around that bracket and said by the next time I come in the tooth will be in line with the others

Also, since I was there already they retightened my top and bottom braces. This was my first bottom tightening so I'm feeling a lot of pressure. My top teeth are so used to it that I feel nothing LOL

I've been sick and gluttoning on Lipton's white peach and mango tea which made my clear ties....less clear. In fact they were rather yellow. His assistant tried to sell me on getting a color this time (I've always done clear) but my niece's first birthday is in two weeks and I want to have less noticable braces in the pictures. I may try a color next month but for now No Expirementing!

Not much else to report, I'm just pleased I got tightened this month instead of waiting until May. I love the feeling of freshly tightened teeth!

    Hi Anny,

I can relate about the clear ligatures. I like how they look when first placed, but unfortunately with all the coffee I drink, they're usually slightly yellow by the time I get them changed. I might experiment with a color down the road...not sure yet.

Great you had an unscheduled adjustment and that your uppers are feeling great. Hopefully your lowers will be feeling great soon.

It's great your ortho shaved a little off those side brackets and hopefully this will make your biting more comfortable now.

    Good luck with progress!

I wish they would do that with my side brackets. They are like little knives just cutting the inside of my mouth. I have Gishy Goo on my top back brackets but can't reach far enough in to get to the very back on the bottom. I don't think anything would stay anyway. Glad you got the tightening over with!

    Thanks for the support everyone

What color are you thinking about Melody? I saw someone with ceramics and grey ties which surprisingly didn't jump out as much.

Thank you Sunny - now I get to adjust to biting with less bracket *heh* He did say the teeth should align more soon so it will be less of an issue. He watches teeth move for a living - I didn't ask what "soon" meant to him

Poor Denise, I feel your pain. I can't believe what a hassle the bottoms are after the non-issue I had with the uppers.

Yes, I've seen some pictures of the silver/grey ligs on ceramics, and they do look very subtle. I think being so close in color and position to the archwire, it all kind of blends in.
