hi everybody,
thank you for the nice welcome after my short introduction!
as you told me I will start my braces blog now:
after a not so successful treatment with removeable braces as a child and after "loosing" 4 wisdom teeth i finally decided to start orthodontic treatment for a second time. with my age of 35 i feel quite young, and as i live in europe i think braces for adults are still not as common as in the usa (although it is getting more and more popular). at least at my ortho office a always feel really old. i got my spacers 3 days ago and if you are right the metal braces i get the day after tomorrow will be easy for me - as the spacers only produce just a little bit of pression, but no pain. i am already preparing the things i need for my life with braces - special toothbrush, floss, wax and pain killers are prepared. thank you so much for the good information at this page. wednesday morning treatment starts - i will be back with the news.

Great that you're going to be keeping a blog Brace!

You sound like you're well organised and here's hoping you don't need the pain killers. I recommend you have some soft foods, as often people don't feel like chewing the first few days. Things like yoghurt, soft fruit and veg, eggs, pasta etc. Foods you can chew gently, but swallow whole if you want, are a good choice for the first few days.

Another good idea, is to take some photos so you can check your progress. The photos that seem to help the most are, taken straight on of your smile, then your mouth in it's normal bitting position. Also a profile photo of each side, and one of the upper arch and one of the lower arch.

    Good luck for your b-day!

Good luck! The first few days seem to drag and it is painful. Take before pictures (I didn't and I regret it ). Soft foods are a must for the first week.
