Well I did it! My appointment to get my braces on was at 10am this morning. When I got there, the receptionist had me sign the treatment consent, make my deposit of $1075, and handed my coupon booklet, only 18 more payments of $179.17 per month!

I was then taken back to the chair and the Ortho began explaining what would happen during the appointment. He first cleaned my teeth with some aweful grit, then rinsed and dried each tooth. I was now ready for the brackets to be applied. I had to laugh when the assistant brought out the tray. I thought to myself, "well that looks like too many?!" I then asked what the extra brackets were for? The Ortho said that he wanted to go ahead and put them on some of my lower teeth so that I can "start getting used to them". I decided not to argue, since he knows what he's doing.

The whole process of cleaning, rinsing, and putting the brackets on took about 35 minutes. When it came time to put the archwire on, the assistant had to use wire on the front 2 instead of clear ligatures, she said that if she didn't use something stronger, the wire would just pop off. I definately felt the pressure when the wire was on. But it hasn't been too bad.

I do have to say that no amount of mental preparedness can get you ready to see your teeth for the first time. I almost wanted to cry, but I just told myself that it will get and look better as time goes on. I can't wait to see the transformation.

I'm not thrilled that all of the brackets aren't on the bottom, but I can understand why. The 2 upper teeth have to move forward before the bottoms can go on, or else I would break them off too easily. Hopefully they can go on in 5 weeks when I go back, although the receptionist didn't think they would...I'll just hope for some fast progress.

The only real complaint that I have right now is that my upper teeth are hitting the one bracket on the lower right side. I feel like I am going to break it off, and for this reason, I find myself not wanting to close my mouth all the way.

So there you have it, I'm not really in pain yet, just still feels weird having all this stuff in my mouth. Stay tuned!

Fantastic that your treatment is underway ... and your brackets are looking great!

Please make sure you drink heaps of water to keep well hydrated and if any brackets start to rub, cover them well with wax, so that your mouth toughens without any sores.

All the best and here's to your positive attitude helping you through this treatment!
