Before Braces

I am 27 and finally decided to go ahead and get the braces that I have always wanted (well not really wanted but do want the ending results). My teeth are not really bad and people are like what are you getting braces for!!! I have a deep overbite, my top teeth completely cover my bottom, bite is not aligned properly because of this which hascaused TMJ. My ortho also said I had a narrow smile which I never realized till he pointed it out, so he said he will widen my smile during treatment as well. I also have onefront tooth that came in wrong and even though its not a big problem its bothered me my whole life. The Ortho said my treatment time will be 25 months and cost me $4,800.00, there was no down payment and no interest financed through the office, this price also includes a clear retainer to wear full time after braces and a metal retainer towear at night after that. I have decided to go with Ceramic on top and metal on bottom. My Ortho said that metal instead of ceramic on the bottom is the best thing to do because they will hold up much better. I am a little freaked out about having mismatched braces but I will take his word for it, I dont want to start replacing brackets anytime soon.
In my experience so far the spacers were not fun at all! I got copper spacers on August 30 and it felt like my teeth were going to fall out there was so much pressure. It didnt last more than 2 days but was just harder to get used to the feeling of having something in between your teeth. My bite felt weird too because they sit slightly above the tooth so my teeth did not close right, but I guess biting down on them so much has bent them some more and feels much better. On Sept. 7 I had my spacers tighten and they said "oh it wont be as bad as the first time because you have already been wearing them for awhile". Next day.....awful!!!! OMG! my front teeth hurt soooooo bad I could not even touch them with my finger, I definatly did not want to eat anything, but again this only lasted 2 days...took some Advil and got over it. I have been told that spacers are the worst part, I can only hope so because I am now past that.
On 9/15 I actually get the braces put on and extremly nervous because it was such a big decision and I am worried about the way I will look, talk, etc. Its a big change and will defiantly shock everyone I know because I havent told everyone yet. I have also read probley more information on the internet then I should have because I have read some scary things like how bad people get sores in their mouth. I know that everyone is different and I have talked with people I know that have had braces or whose children have and some say bad things and other say I never experienced that, so I guess we will have to see. Sitting in the waiting room at the Ortho is the worst because I hear all these stories and im like omg what am I getting into!
I was told the best suggestion is to get a Waterpik. I have bought one and will see how I like it.
