5 months in--first dental cleaning since braces!

Okay so...I will never ever complain about a normal dental cleaning again...they can pick and scrap all they want to but the thought of having that awful sandblasting mix of baking soda and water and air again makes me CRINGE! My 10 year old hated it when she had her braces on and they did that...I just patted her leg and said "now now..it's fine...be a big girl.." Yesterday she said "MOM--I told you didn't I?"
I took my 5 year old along with me as her appointment was after mine, and she took great delight in watching my face, covered in a papertowel (as this is some messy stuff )and laughing at all the spray going everywhere..in my hair..down my neck...lovely! When I was checking out and making my next appointment my face felt so gritty I was positive that my face was covered in stuff...but it was fine...just felt wierd!
However, they did feel nice and clean after all the picking and blasting and flossing...they told me I was doing a great job with the brackets..no nasty build up but I did get scolded for the amount of tarter behind my bottom teeth. She spent a good 10 minutes scraping all that. I guess I am so focused on the brackets, AND my electric T brush is awkward back there that I have not been doing a good job. I will work on this! This gave me an extra 10 minutes in the chair!
All in all...still doing fine...it is exactly 5 months today since I got my braces on...and while the changes are not as obvious as the first few months, they are definitly making subtle movements. They still jut out, as in overjet (my hygenist remarked to my dentist) because the crowding prior, and now bringing the canines down has made them move forward. This will be fixed with bands, as I have said before. I really can't wait for that...as much of a pain as I have heard they are...I want them..I am sick of this toothy look. One day I would like to be able to close my mouth completely without looking like I am constipated. I hope they go back to where they were...I had a slight overbite, but he aims to take them back to that point as that's probably the max he can do without extracting...and thats the last thing I want. My face is thin enough...I need all my chompers in there to keep me looking like me.
I go back for adjustment # 3 on June 15th--YAY--love it!!! Even though I get achey..I live for these visits as it means progress! I have 8 weeks between visits and it seems soooooo long!!!
I will take more pics soon and post.
Oh and one thing...I have figured out that for me...the fifth month is the month where I don't immediatly look in the mirror, bleary from sleep to see if my teeth look any different than the night before. I actually go potty first, get a shower and THEN I look to see. LOL!!! I guess this means I am getting used to this ole' routine!!!
Have a wonderful day every one!!!!!!!![]()
