Hi everyone, I was just browsing and happened to see that I'm a winner!!! I am so super excited! Thank you so much!!!

okay, so almost in to week 13. (3 months sounds better)... I have had a rough week, three cankers sores have formed into one big giant sore on my right side, and has prevented me from smiling, eating, talking--the works..my own fault though...lesson to self, chewing sugar free gum, while acceptable, is not a smart idea because it can cause you to bite your face off. My 2nd adjustment has been moved to April 20th (4 days sooner-yay) as I wanted to chaparone my 5 year old daughter's field trip on the day the appointment was originally set....For this appointment, I am getting a thicker wire....owch right? I will definitly take Advil this time. My husband seems to think I will be joining him on a dinner at the Masonic lodge that week, but I think I am bowing out. I can't imagine having a stronger wire, be in pain, and manage to chew back some ham or roast beef. Ugh, makes me shudder.
As for my teeth, yes, they are moving all around...my bite is still getting worse....I feel so toothy all the time, can't wait for them to be pulled back. I knew it would happen though....my uppers were crowded, and with no teeth removed, the ortho said they will move out. I need those rubber bands quick...because I feel quite goofy and dorky. More than usual.
This weekend I have my first BIG social event in braces. Our friends are getting married and we are all going. So...that means smiling and talking to people that I don't know, who will be glancing at my horsey mouth, and I will have to eat discreetly and find a bathroom to brush after. OH JOY!. Seriously though, I am looking forward to the wedding, but my lack of feeling pretty and having to deal with my braces, are putting a damper on it.
I had lunch with a friend who has not seen me in 3 months, so the first thing she said was "oooooh your teeth are SO straight!!"Bless her heart, LOVE HER! Made me feel so much better...this is all so bittersweet and worthwhile, I hate going through this but I know it's all worth it. I will take more pics soon to show my third month! Thanks again every one!!!

We're about the same age so I feel your pain about wearing braces to social events! Honestly, if everyone can see how much straighter your teeth are and know you care enough about your appearance and health to endure braces then its worth it. I haven't gotten teased at all - even by siblings and cousins who have made it their life goal to tease everyone about everything

Ouch to your canker sore though

Congratulations for winning, that's great news!

I've had quite a few social events with braces ... and the best way I've found to approach them, is to totally ignore my braces and then others seem to do the same. One example was, after being invited to attend an overseas function, my hubby received an email from a person he'd met a few times saying that he'd noticed in one of the photos that I had braces, and that his wife was also considering getting braces, and would I be able to email her some information about them. She was thrilled to know we'd talked a few times, and yet she didn't notice I had braces ... think that gave her confidence to go ahead and start treatment.

Good luck ... and great your friend was able to share her feelings about the look of your teeth ... fantastic to hear!

Thanks everyone, just a quick update about the wedding---it was great, and I smiled the whole time. Of course, like we all know, no one says anything and of all the pics I took before we left, of our family (the kids looked adorable so had to snap pics of course) I love them, I was smiling, and that is such a novelty for me! The pics look nice, my teeth look much straighter with the front tooth now straight and not turned like it was, and my canines are MUCH lower and almost in line with my front teeth (not so high)...so with my ceramic brackets, my smile looks actually pretty darn good in photos! My sister saw them and was so happy to see me smiling, she commented to my mother in law, "wow..isn't it great to see her smile on these?" My mom in law said "YES, she never smiled in any pictures and she looks great! "So....before I got braces I would have been horrified to be the subject of that conversation,....now it just made me smile....I told them, well, you can't hide them...you just have to em "brace" them and SMILE! I have missed out on smiling for so long, it's nice to learn to let go of that feeling. We had BBQ pork, and rice and hash (for all you southerners--you know what that is) at the wedding, so I ate that and some cake..was able to eat it pretty good and didn't get anything stuck!
2 more weeks til 2nd adjustment!! Can't wait...this time is rolling on by!!!

One more thing...I used my giftcard this morning, and ordered a Oral B rechargable toothbrush and 3 replacement heads. I have been using a regular brush and thought it was time to step up. I had a Sonicare about 8 years ago and hated it, every time the plastic part of the brush clanked against my teeth it made me cringe. Couldn't get used to it...and stopped using it. I hope this time it goes a little better...we'll see at the end of the week!

Fantastic that the wedding went so well and you got to smile and smile and smile! Sounds like it was a truly wonderful experience for you!

What a great way to spend your giftcare! Something truly for you and also hugely useful! Congrats!
