  1. 5 weeks...no visible change

    by , 02-09-2012 at 05:26 PM
    Howdy!

So, I have now had my Damon Clear braces for exactly 5 weeks. Throughout the last month I have had very brief moments of VERY minor aching in a few isolated teeth. Eating with braces is like riding a bike. It took a few days, but now I barely think about them when I'm eating. I thought about nothing but my braces for probably 2 straight weeks, and now I think about them quite a bit less. Mostly only when I'm meeting new people or friends that have not seen me since I ...

  2. Starting out with Invisalign

    by , 02-08-2012 at 08:56 PM
So I'm a little older than your typical braces wearer, but I've always hated my teeth. I was given a plate to wear when I was 14, with a little screw thing I had to turn once a week or something, but it was bulky and smelly and I wasn't that motivated to wear it. It did improve my teeth, but I stopped wearing it too soon, so I've always been a bit crooked with a ma-hoo-sive overbite and a lot of top gum showing when I smile.

I got a bit of extra cash a while ago and decided to go ...

  3. Freaked out

    by , 02-02-2012 at 05:28 AM
Hello! So I REALLY need to start this blog because I don't think I can go through this otherwise! Reading the stories of others is so encouraging and makes me feel so much better about going through this... I know it had to be done, buy MY GOD is it painful or what! I've had braces before when I was 12 years old and nothing came out of it 'cause I moved countries and my parents were too scared to take FOUR of my teeth out to make the room in my mouth... So I just aimlessly walked around with METAL ...

I am 53 and have always wanted to get my teeth straightened... so my kids are grown, through college and married... so I decided to do something for myself.

I had my braces put on 1-18-12. I am using the SPEED brand - self-ligating metal braces. I have overcrowding on the lower arch and an overjet on the top. I only have my archwire on top. I am scheduled to have one of my lower front teeth extracted on the 23rd and

Soo I've had funky teeth since as far back as I can remember...add coke bottle glasses and no sense of style and I didn't have a chance in jr. high. I did get contacts eventually and learned the art of having friends dress me, which helped significantly! But I have always been super self conscience of my teeth. Especially in a society that bases so much of your self worth on your smile! Think about it! Go look back at all the great celebrities of the last century and then look at them today, everyone ...

  6. I'm Braced!

    by , 01-09-2012 at 12:18 PM
I went last Thursday and got my top braces put on. Let's start with the bad news first...my orthodontist put the wrong brackets on me! I specifically asked for the Radiance brackets and they put the Clarity brackets on. (I attached a picture so you can see the difference between the brackets) It wouldn't bother me that much if I hadn't spent the last month doing TONS of research on all my options. I mean if they were going to put what they wanted on me anyways, I would't have wasted my time. I didn't ...

Hey all! I just wanted to post some pictures of how my teeth look at the very beginning of treatment. I have damon clear on the top front six teeth and regular metal damon brackets on the rest. Let me know if there are any other angles or pictures that you would like to see.

  8. Braced up and doing fine...

    by , 01-09-2012 at 10:23 AM
So, regardless of varying opinions from friends and family about whether I should start treatment so soon or without getting multiple doctor's opinions or treatment options...I trusted my gut and started my treatment on the 4th, last Wed.

So, last week I drove to the ortho office, slapped my down payment on the counter and they escorted me to the back. My ortho office has an "adult" room which I assumed is where I would be, but I wasn't. I was placed in a chair in the ...

  9. First set of trays - Day 5

by , 01-08-2012 at 12:59 PM (Invisalign - My Journey!)
Hi So this will be my blog to help me keep up with my progress and share it with others. I received my first set of aligners on Tuesday January 3, 2012. They were tight at first and I think it shocked me how much they hurt in the beginning. The pain was not unbearable I took some asprin and it was fine. I do not think it was the actual pain that shocked me, but I think I did not prepare myself of how much of a change it will be. The "pain" only lasted two days on and off. ...

  10. The day my teeth went to jail :-)

    by , 01-05-2012 at 11:14 PM
So, it's official, I'm all braced up.

I've had my braces on for just under 12 hours and already it's been an adventure.

The application wasn't too bad. They cleaned my teeth really well before putting the brackets on. It took about 1.5 hours to put all the brackets on and place the arch wires. The brackets were super uncomfortable at first and I got very worried, but it was less annoying once the wires were put in. When I looked in the mirror for the first time ...

  12. Less than 24 hrs to go...

    by , 01-03-2012 at 10:39 AM
Well, it's finally time. Tomorrow at 9 am I am getting my Damon braces installed. I am excited and of course slightly nervous all at the same time. This is my third time with braces, but it has been 10 years. So, although I'm trying to act cool and like it's no big deal because I have been through it before, part of me is still a little hesitant.

Some of my family and friends recommended I delay getting my braces on due to the fact that I was promoted over Christmas break and ...

  13. Seriously can't wait to get this process officially started.

    by , 01-02-2012 at 02:58 PM
Brackets have been on for a month, and teeth were pulled 3 weeks ago. Seriously cannot wait until Wednesday to get my official wires on and tightened. My teeth have been hitting each other constantly. I have been accidentally hitting my chin on things and consequently hitting my top teeth feeling like I knocked them loose. At night, I can't sleep because I am clenching my teeth together, resulting in sore front teeth because my 1st pre molars prevented this which are no longer there.
  14. I have an impacted canine....

    by , 12-30-2011 at 07:34 AM
Hi my names Abbie, i am 15 years old

I have been found to have an impacted canine on my left side, and my appointment to have it down with a gold chain has finally come through.
But i haven't got braces on yet which is a bit of a pain, and i am afraid that it is really going to hurt when i have my mould done, because the mould will go in the hole that the chain is coming from....has anyone got the same problem as me...i am really scared.x

  15. wires broke off

    by , 12-27-2011 at 12:52 AM
Ha, my upper back molar wires came off. Luckily, I am still due for my first real adjustment in a week, they said it wouldn't matter if I just pulled the wire out of the last bracket and waited until next week.

My extraction sites are healing nicely now. I was worried about one socket, thinking I had dry socket. I went in thinking I had dry socket, and they treated it but were not positive I had it. Its healing now.
