  1. Day 2 with Metal Braces

by , 09-18-2009 at 07:52 PM (Full Metal Braces @ 23 Years Old)
Well today has been much better then yesterday. First off, I didn't wake up feeling like someone had hit me in the teeth with a sledge hammer! I have only had to take one Advil today, and that was after brushing my teeth this morning. My teeth are still quite sensitive to pressure, so still sticking to the soft foods. It is very painful to floss, but I suck it up and do it anyway. I am really looking forward to being able to go back to eating like normal again and chewing! I really miss chewing, ...

  2. Braces on 09/16/09

by , 09-17-2009 at 07:46 PM (Full Metal Braces @ 23 Years Old)
So my appointment for braces to be put on was yesterday (Sept. 16/09) morning at 9:10 AM. Everything went by pretty quick it seemed, though it was 11 AM before I left the Ortho's office.

I came in a few minutes early, but they were prepared and have everything ready to go. So I went in and sat down and they polished my teeth off first. Then the cheek expander went in..which was uncomfortable for me, cause it rubbed on the top of my gum line.

    My brackets were already ...

My appt was at 3:50 pm today and I was excited to finally get this process started.

My first stop was the billing / payment / tell you everything you need to know room. This process took roughly 15 minutes. Explained all the details both good and bad. My ortho allows in house billing, which means I can go interest free and just make monthly payments. Woohoo.

    My overall cost is $5290
    I put $1000 down.
Amt due: $4,290 spread over 14 months, interest free! ...

  4. Day One...

    by , 08-25-2009 at 06:26 PM
Okay so here we go I got my metal braces today.
Heck yeah it was painful but it was also exciting and fun. My ortho is GREAT! She kind of reminds me of Doctors who come in when the work is just about complete to inspect everything that the other dental assistant's do and then put a stamp on it and keep it moving... she however participated in my treatment and even assisted in inspecting my brackets and wire.

I am now into hour four and thank goodness I took some drugs beforehand. ...

Two and a half weeks in and I'm getting used to my braces. Fortunately the guy I've been dating thinks they look cute so looks like he's a keeper! I'm still getting used to what I feel is a drastic change in appearance but they haven't been a complete blow to my confidence and I'm learning to smile again without being really self-conscious. I've been eating out and have been ordering most of the things I'd normally eat. The first time I went out with the braces to a restaurant I only ordered dessert ...

  7. Arch wire today

    by , 04-28-2009 at 10:54 AM
Well 20 days ago I had all my brackets put on and my lower wire put on. The pain and misery that caused me for the better part of two weeks is well documented here in my blog. However, as of today I have no more mouth pain, except for the occasional sore spot from a callus in my cheeks. The tooth sensitivity is gone. My sense of taste has mostly returned. I know having the arch wire put on today will cause a lot of pressure and discomfort over the next few days. My top teeth need the most work. ...
  8. 1 week in today!

    by , 04-28-2009 at 06:31 AM
Hi all, I am one week with ceramic/metal mixed brackets on top and bottom. I have had a UR4 pre molar extraction on the right to allow for a wayward canine to be slotted in its rightful place on the left.
It has been a lot more painful than I had expected, teeth were very tender for a while and I have been living of mash potato and speghetti. I nearly gave up at one LOW point and requested the damn things be removed! However last night I managed to chew, very tentatively so I am pleased the ...

  9. Day 2 after fixing ceramics on top

Finally, I have braces on top! It took me months to get them because my orthodontists works only once a fortnight and I had to have 4 (!) teeth extracted prior to that. I didnt think it would be sooo hard. The problem is that I have a wire on my palate to sort of anchor my back teeth and it is extremely uncomfortable to eat. I'd say close to unbearable. Not that it takes at least 45 minutes but it also hurts and the food gets stuck on the palate wire, let alone the food on braces. So I wonder if ...
  10. Introduction

by , 04-10-2009 at 06:26 AM (Linguals & Clarity braces in London)
    Morning,
I thought I would introduce the situation of my teeth right at the beginning of my blog.

    Attachment 51

    Lower:
My lower teeth appear much worse than my top.
I have crowding at the front, which was worsened by my wisdom teeth popping out.
I also have a baby tooth still residing on my left, with no adult tooth to push it out.

    Upper:
My upper teeth actually require more work than the bottom.
    My wisdom ...
  11. Braces are on!

    by , 04-08-2009 at 01:32 PM
Thanks for the words of welcome to everyone who posted to me yesterday.

This morning all the brackets went on, and the bottom wire went on. I also got a "speed bump" installed on the back of one of my front teeth. I need two teeth extracted on the top, a wisdom and a tooth on the side to make room for movement. So about a week after the surgery I'll have that top wire put on. Surgery should happen in the next few days. The office should be calling today to set up the ...

  12. Bottom Braces FINALLY On!

by , 03-18-2009 at 06:06 PM (Thirty with Braces)
Today's dental appointment was quite the endeavor! I got molar bands on top, two repaired brackets and my bottom braces put in. It took about 1 1/2 hours and pretty much sucked.

I had spacers put in last week and those things are HORRIBLE! They force the teeth to move so quickly that you're in constant pressure/pain. (Plus they taste rubberry!)

The spacers were in place so molar bands could be inserted today. Ironically my bottom teeth (where I had wisdom teeth removed ...

You are now reading a piece of history: MY FIRST BLOG *EVER* !

So, as you may already know, I got my braces yesterday (2-20-09) !

It was a cake walk, really. I got the top row done & the bottom will be put on later. The same day as I get my 1st tightening, I hope to have them.

I thought I'd be crying for wax afterward but I haven't needed it yet. My mouth is so comfortable with the metal, its insane !

    Anywho, now that I have

  15. The first 24 hours!

    by , 02-18-2009 at 01:52 PM
Well 1 set in, 26 uppers and 13 lowers to go.

Yesterday took such a long time to come around. I got to my appointment on time no thanks to road closures on the A2 and some swift driving by my workmate.

First thing attachments, I wasn't a big fan of the pumice, especially as it gathered in my throat and I eventually swallowed it, oh well it's fibre eh? then the acid, and the bond, then the composite (B1- see my previous post) in a premoulded shape so the attachments ...
