    by , 12-30-2011 at 07:34 AM
Hi my names Abbie, i am 15 years old

I have been found to have an impacted canine on my left side, and my appointment to have it down with a gold chain has finally come through.
But i haven't got braces on yet which is a bit of a pain, and i am afraid that it is really going to hurt when i have my mould done, because the mould will go in the hole that the chain is coming from....has anyone got the same problem as me...i am really scared.x

  3. Total newbie to this - im almost 30 and having braces fitted after an extraction

    by , 10-25-2011 at 05:29 PM
    Hi all,

I really hope i can find some people to share my worries and hopes with on here... my husband doesnt get the big deal about this - his view is i wanted it and im getting it

I'll start with what a waste of space my mother is and wish this had been sorted as a child Which the orthodontist was quick to ask about at my initial app (i wanted the floor to open up on me)!
My teeth are so crooked and over crowded, i don't have nearly enough space in my ...

  4. Tighter bands?!

    by , 09-01-2011 at 03:15 PM (Hannah's Blog)
So I had an appointment with the orthodontist today... Made me realise how long I've been going to Bournemouth Hospital, and how often I've gone recently as the receptionist said "Hello Hannah, how are you?" I must have gone many times for her to remember me out of all the faces she must see every day!

Anyway, about the appointment... she seemed happy with how the bands are closing the gap, and just as I mastered putting in the other bands she changed the ones I had! ...

  5. Home at last...

    by , 08-08-2011 at 11:51 AM (Hannah's Blog)
I've finally been allowed home from the hospital. I feel SOOOO swollen and puffed up. I haven't managed to bite together yet, or to open my mouth wide enough to get a toothbrush in really.

The op itself went ok, so I'm told, except that apparently a couple of brackets broke because they didn't put any bands on. My jaw feels like it's hanging a little precariously, but I have plenty of pillows to keep it in place when I sleep.

I'm eating surprisingly well (probably due ...

  6. What a day...

    by , 07-20-2011 at 01:26 PM (Hannah's Blog)
Today I got a phone call telling me about the operation date being changed. But to be honest, with the key dates to move in to my room on 24th and 25th September, I just didn't want to have my surgery on 1st September. The admissions lady was very good about it and said that she personally would feel the same and gave me tyhe number of my surgeon's secretary in order to phone her.

So I did. I said that I understand why it has been moved, as cancer cases MUST take priority, but could ...

  7. I'm back!!!!! And now for the bad news...

    by , 07-19-2011 at 05:47 PM (Hannah's Blog)

Just literally got back from a week on holiday with my friends. I was very good, no fruit juices or too much alcohol Of course I was bearing in mind my surgery (which had been moved to 4th of August due to a cancer case) and how I need to be healthy for it.

Well, guess what my mum told me. The hospital phoned again recently, and as I wasn't around my mum said she could pass on a message (which surprisingly they let her) which turns out not to be a nice message. ...

  8. Change!

    by , 07-06-2011 at 01:54 PM (Hannah's Blog)
I got a phone call from the hospital today and wow is all I can say.

My jaw surgery was meant to be on 21st July, and I'd you know, gotten used to the idea. But now that's all changing...

The hospital were already freaking out because they wanted to see me on the 19th but can't, but that won't be an issue now. The woman on the phone said an urgent cancer case has come up, so my operation is now going to be on 4th August, two weeks later.

    Obviously, I ...

  9. Appointments...

    by , 07-04-2011 at 08:15 AM (Hannah's Blog)
Any one else find that sometimes the hospital just doesn't listen to you? Or they do, but the communication within the hospital means the message gets lost?

Basically, I'm due surgery on both jaws on 21st July. Sounds alright, still got loads of time to sort everything out. Well not really. I'm going on holiday soon, from 12th to 19th July. I won't get back until about 8 o'clock in the evening, so I told the hospital at my pre-op assessment on 28th June, "I can't do 12th-19th ...

  10. Confusion

    by , 07-01-2011 at 08:55 AM
So I've decided to look around a bit to maybe get a second (or third) opinion on my invisalign treatment and cost. Only thing is that in the process I have become very confused as one dental practice sent me the following:

'I have had a chat to our Orthodontists and they all wanted to know if you have seen and Specialist Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon for your TMJ problem? The reason we ask this is that sometimes TMJ pain is due to congenital or degenerative problems. Even if we did ...

i am 25. i had rubber band spacers put in 3 1/2 weeks ago. 1 1/2 weeks ago i had those taken out and damon brackets put in on lower and upper. nothin special, just the brackets and the wire.

  12. Still alive

    by , 05-19-2011 at 10:17 AM
I had my surgery on Tues. and now I'm home. I didn't get to look at myself in the mirror before the swelling set in, but Mom says I looked good. Right now when I look in the mirror I don't even recognize. The good news is though that I really don't have any pain. the bad news is that my face looks like a huge bruise and I'm very swollen.

I'll try to post some pictures once the swelling started majorly going down.

  13. 3 days post extraction - braces on tomorrow; but i've got infection/dry socket :(

by , 04-15-2011 at 07:54 AM (Amandas little journey for straight teeth @ 26!)
This is a re-cap of the last 3 days since my extractions on Tuesday (I was having 4 out #14 #24 #34 & #44; prior to braces)

Well, I shook the hand of the anaesthetist after I woke up on Tuesday - I was SOOO happy that I didn't remember anything and that was the main thing I was concerned about.

Basically, I walked in that morning, he took my blood pressure and ECG and said 'I'm just going to give you a little to calm your nerves' (this is before the dental tech ...

  14. Recap of Oral Surgery

    by , 04-10-2011 at 06:50 PM
    Hello!!

I am on my 3rd day in braces, but I will go back to the day I got them on and go over my surgery.

My ortho put the brackets on 4-6, which was no big deal at all. I had my oral surgery consult scheduled for 4-7 and my actual surgery 4-8.

I had to get 4 teeth extracted..two on top and two on bottom due to overcrowding. My canines never dropped because there were teeth in the way. The teeth in the way had to come out, so the braces could push them ...

  15. Saw Surgeon Today...

    by , 02-22-2011 at 07:38 PM
Had an appointment to see my surgeon today. Always a pleasure stopping by his office. Took my dad since he is pretty curious about this procedure I'm having done and he is retired (bored).

He took a quick look at my teeth and we still have to close up some spaces. He is going to talk to my ortho next week.

I have to either have the surgery in April or after May 22 (my sisters wedding). I'm not rushing it all, so we will see how these spaces play out...
