One year down… hopefully only one more to go!

After the whole “bite down” spiel, he said, “This is looking really good. You can stop this elastic,” (meaning the one on the right; the only one I was using), and I was ecstatic… for about 2 seconds. He turned right around and told the assistant, “Drop some hooks on the lower 4s, and put a C-chain on the top.” I knew what that meant… more elastic wear! So, she stuck the hooks into my Damons (like building Lego blocks), and now I’m back to wearing them on both sides, in an inverted triangle configuration. I’m not in any discomfort yet, but I can tell these things are going to rub like crazy. I managed to sneak in a quick question and asked, “Are these supposed to help level my left side?” and he said, “Yep!” (Guess that’s all I would get out of him today.)

So, that’s about it. Nothing too exciting this time, but I’m happy to see some sort of progress. His assistant told me that I may eventually get a zig-zag configuration, which I believe is to keep the bite in place. I anticipate losing a lot of weight during that period.

A few pics (including one of the hook, complete with yellow dot!)

Looking good Cathy!! At my last ortho appointment this past Monday, one of the office workers had just gotten her braces that day, and has the same brackets you do and my god they are beautiful. I am still jealous!! Your teeth are looking fantastic and really has it been a whole year already? I can't believe how the time flies!! I can't believe mine are coming off in 4 days!

Thanks, Denise! I thought about you on my way back from my appointment. 4 MORE DAYS!!! I'm so excited for you...

The assistant took one look at purple chain and was so stoked that I got a color, after all the fuss I made in the beginning about wanting to look discreet. I hated to burst her bubble, but I said, "Thanks... I'm going with Obscure today!" I will probably try another color when my teeth become a bit more level. The slanting is bothering me, so I don't want to call too much attention to it.

    Have a great weekend!
    Cathy

P.S. What are you going to do with all of your Gishy Goo? I don't even use mine anymore, so maybe I'll donate it to my ortho's office, along with the tons of OrthoSil I bought in anticipation of daily pain.

Wow ... one year already ... that's crazy fast!

Your teeth look amazing Cathy ... wish mine could have looked just a little similar to yours! Your ortho must be thrilled with the way you're progressing!

Drinking extra water can help prevent rubbing ... good luck with that!

    Take care!

You have been a terrific inspiration and given lots of us encouragement when it was/is most needed.

And um, jumping-up-and-down-mode, can I have some of your Gishy Goo?! I'll pay for postage, etc. I'll write you...

Thanks, girlfriend! No problem about the Goo. I replied to your message...

It's something a few of us use instead of dental wax. It adheres really well, even while eating, and it comes in different colors (though I've only used the tooth-colored one). Denise got me started on it... It's her fault! LOL

    Gishy Goo is amazing!!!

Ab: GishyGoo - Ultradent Products, Inc.. It comes in a tube. You squeeze a bit out, roll it into a ball, and putty it over the tooth that has the bracket that is cutting your cheek/lip. It will congeal to your bracket and is smooth so it feels like a tooth and doesn't have that nasty taste of wax, nor does it flake off like wax. When you go to eat, you can just peel it right off the bracket. It's pretty much an absolute life saver.

Cathy: I was down to only two tubes left, I gave them to my sister at dinner today, along with my waxed floss, my dentabrushes, my elastics (we are both in 'Sea Lion's', and I'm giving her my travel waterpik too, but I'm keeping my big main one for myself haha. I'm so excited I have butterflies right now! I can't stand it! There's no way I'm getting any sleep tonight.
