9/30/10: 6th adjustment... And fun new things...

Went in this afternoon for my adjustment, and got a new assistant. Before I chickened out, I boldly announced to her "I'm getting COLORS today!" and asked if I could see the color palette. Since the ortho was out of the room, I quickly asked if I could take a photo of it so I could look at it before I got to the office, and she had no problem at all. She put it on the table for me and said "You only have braces once; might as well have fun with them!" I chose Plum Crazy (how appropriate for me, huh? ), which looks like a really deep purple on my teeth, but photographs much lighter, like a Lavendar or Periwinkle Blue. Very purty, thou... She even gave the matching powerchain for my gap, without my even asking.

He left my bottom wire alone, but changed the top wire to a .016/.022 stainless steel (not NiTi, and no more stoppers). I could swear in the car it looked copper-colored instead of silver, but I guess that's just because it was clean and new. Haha

Here are pics of the ligs and new power chain:

Here's another pic taken with my cell phone. THIS is what they actually look like on my teeth:

She said I might feel some discomfort, but it's been 2 hours, and nothing feels any different. Just in case...I'm gonna go chow down my dinner in case it sneaks up on me later.

He said "Looking good..." That's the most I got out of him today. Back again in 4 weeks...

P.S. Sunny - I guessed 19 out of the 24 colors correct on that palette. Pretty good, huh?

    Excellent job Cathy!

I LOVE that color on you, and now you have me thinking of doing it. I have had deep purple, burgundy and a dark blue. I now want to call my ortho and have them change it, lol! I will wait my six weeks though.

Those powerchains are going to give you the BUSINESS girl, trust me. I am feeling some serious pain since my ortho gave me powerchains on my two front teeth *to close the gap* and on my rotated tooth.

I hope that you enjoy your color, they look GREAT!

Thank you, mzkimx3 (responded to your question on my "visitor" page!).

    Michelle-

Thank you! I kinda wish they looked this light on my teeth (they are REALLY dark purple, so I'm hoping that means not-so-easy staining), but I'm very happy with them. I've actually had a clear powerchain on since June to close the darn gap; they just changed it to purple today. Oh, and they actually put it AROUND two of the three brackets, instead of just on the hooks, like they'd done before. I'm hoping that will help pull the teeth along better. It's only 3 links, but when she attached it she paused for a second (I guess she was waiting for my "OUCH!!" and other more colorful words), and when I said nothing she said, "How does that feel?" I said, "Same as it's felt for the past 3 months... pressure, but no pain... yet." I seriously think some of these assistants have a bit of "sadist" in them. Anyway, I'm not in any pain right now, but it sure did F-up my bite. I'm sure I'll be doing much chewing up of my cheeks in the next few weeks.

I'm not a "blue color" person, but I tell ya, some of those dark blues looked really nice. But I'll give y'all a heads-up: Screaming Pink WILL be making an appearance sometime in the next few months.

Sorry you're having pain. Do you have any good pharmaceuticals?

Outstanding choice Cathy ... the best colour in the whole wide world! Plus the colour look amazing with your gorgeous brackets ... ghee they look great!

Amazing you got so many of the colours right! I was getting a headache working them out and made myself stop!

Awww... Sunny: I'm sorry I gave you a headache. (For everyone else - I emailed Sunny a link to look at the color palette my ortho uses and asked if she could help me identify the colors. There were 24 colors on there, but the words were blurry so we tried just guessing what the colors were.)

Powerchain is definitely doing something this morning. My bite is all off, and those three chained teeth are screaming at me "Why??!!! Why are you doing this to us??!!" I told them to be patient... And yes, I do talk to my teeth. LOL!

So Cathy I almost went with Screaming Pink ligs lol almost. I saw it and though of you lol.

LOL @mzkim! I must have that effect on people. The first thing the assistant said yesterday when I said I wanted color was "PINK!" Well, we both have many more months to experiment with colors. Just read your blog - congratulations, girl!!

I'm getting ready to go get my eyebrows done, and just realized that there's another gap where I haven't seen one in a while, next to the canine being "tugged along". GOGOGO purple powerchain! Do your THANG!!

    LMAO @ Assistants being sadists!!!!

I do have some and they put me in a kind of a stupor so I have to make sure to take them at night. I take two Aleve in the am to start off and it's been working. It's been a few days and there is still some kinda serious pain with the powerchains on the front teeth, but on the rotated tooth it's been dull to almost no pain, I guess it is used to getting pulled tugged and moved around.

I love that purple on you Cathy! I think you should get more colors. They look so nice on you. I hope you don't end up with any real pain because it is no joke for real when it kicks in.

My mom told me today that she notices some serious change in my front teeth moving backward and the gap getting smaller thus creating more gaps on the other side of my teeth so it's quite funny to me.

I love the purple! So cute!

How long have they been trying to close that gap? I haven't gotten to the gap closing stage yet, but I'm curious

    Thank you, lileepers!

I got the extraction on 5/1, and they attached the powerchain the following month, so it's been almost 4 months since the chain went on. I believe he's doing a combination of moving the back molars forward a bit, as well as moving the canine back at the same time. I think it's going according to schedule, and even if it takes a bit longer, i prefer the cautious approach to him just yanking the canine back...then having to deal with the other huge gaps that would form.

Good luck with your gap closure!

Cathy those are SO FUN!! Good call with the purple, those look great!! (still so jealous of those brackets)

Thanks, Denise! I must thank Sunny for her insistence that purple is DA BOMB, and pretty stain-resistant.

I'm still jealous that you're ALMOST DONE!!
