I'm very blue today...

Well... my powerchain is, at least!

A couple of weeks ago I had a great lunch of soft tacos from Taco Bell. To me, they taste better and are much easier to eat with braces, than the regular crunchy tacos. Anyway, I gobbled them up, and found out later that day that whatever the heck they put in with the meat stained my powerchain a nasty shade of amber. I mean, it was so bad, my friend asked me, "Why are your teeth so yellow?" I was able to keep this thing clean for over a month before, so I know it had to be the tacos. I could NOT go another month looking like this.

I threw myself on the mercy of the office manager, Mrs. Ortho, and she said it was NO problem at all to come in and have it changed out. It had only been a week since my last adjustment, so I went in yesterday and decided I'd try the light blue. I think it looks... okay. I'm not much of a "blue" person, but since I hopefully only have a few more months left, I wanted to be adventurous. I was hoping it would make my teeth look whiter, but it didn't. Whaddaya think?

Nit-pick of the month: I wish she'd have put it on straighter. But I guess I should be thankful that she got it around ALL the brackets, instead of leaving a couple of them half-tied.

cathy, i def know what your talking about with staining of ligs and chains. By my time for my 3 week adjustments they are an amber color and i didnt even think i had anything that would stain, but it guess the pearl ligs take a little longer as clear would be done in a day. It looks kind of lavender in this picture but i like the color. hopefully no more staining for a bit lol stupid taco bell lol jk

I realized that food always tastes better once you can start to eat something. I can trace my new enchilada addiction almost to the very day because it was the first thing I could really eat with my braces and yes it was the best thing I ever ate. Have you started avoiding certain foods yet? Not because they stain or are on the no-no list but because it takes you longer to fish the food out of the braces than it does to eat them.

AK710 - I've had my braces for just over 18 months, and there aren't too many foods that I avoid eating, but I will say that I have happily switched from hard-shell tacos to soft tacos because I don't have to worry about the shell getting stuck EVERYWHERE! They're just mushy and delicious! It's not a pretty sight to see me trying to nonchalantly dig food out of my braces with my tongue. But when I'm by myself - I'll eat anything! A week or so after getting braced, I had my first McDonald's hamburger in a long time, and it was the BEST hamburger I'd ever tasted. haha

Bet you thought I'd disappeared into an oblivion eh? haha. I just had to come back to the ole stompin' grounds and see what the familiar 'faces' are up to. You're so close to finishing and WOW look at those teeth! Seems just like yesterday you were in a battle for those gorgeous brackets! I've had mine off for a full 6 months now. There are some days when it still feels odd not having them, and other days where it was all just a terrible memory. Eating is definitely a lot more enjoyable now. I've been wearing my retainer every night and it's funny because I can put them on and they snap on basically because my teeth have moved through the day. When I take them out the next morning, they just slide right out. So at least I know they're ... retaining. I may always wear them at night, just because I'm so afraid of losing 2 years of progress (aka hell) with braces! Way to go with your progress!!!
