Okay… now I feel complete. The first thing both my doc and his tech asked me when I walked in was, “Did that spacer stay in??” LOL! Yep, it sure did. I’ve even been eating on the other side just to be sure. The tech still had a bit of trouble getting the *$%#@! molar band in, but doc was able to do it just fine. She was SO happy, because now that all of the preparation had been done, I could finally move on to… NEW WIRES!!! FULL MOUTH ...
Okay, I am officially one tooth less today. All my worry and anxiety were all for nothing (as usual). Doc looked at my xray and my teeth and said, “Oh, this should be a piece of cake.” He also said that as long as I had some ibuprofen at home, that should be all I need for pain, as this is a pretty straight-forward extraction. I reminded him that I had requested the nitrous oxide (woo hoo! ), so he made me sign a release form (in case I went to another world and never returned), ...
No, I'm not leaving on a vacation... or taking a break from the BracesReview boards... I am bidding a fond adeiu and Aloha to a very special friend. She's been with me for a good 30+ years, and will be leaving this world a mere 25 hours from now. Please join me in bidding a fond farewell to my lonely unbracketed top-left first premolar: I shall miss her terribly. But I know she'll be going to ...
As much as I've gone on and on about it over the past week or two, I probably should've posted this pic on my last blog, but I only took it tonight. Here's a pic of my lovely molar band, and my LONELY spacers on the other side: (See the itty, bitty bite out of the back spacer? LOL!) Well, the time has finally come (this weekend) for my premolar extraction, and I must admit that I'm getting ...
I'm beginning to think my teeth are worse off than I thought. I've had these damn spacers in since Day 1; they've been replaced once (after either breaking or popping off). Today was THE DAY I was finally going to get them off and get my wonderfully fun and oh-so-fashionable molar bands. Well, lo and behold... after many frustrating and rather painful attempts at putting a band on that left molar, we ended up with YES... MORE SPACERS!! The only good thing about those ...
Just before I began my nightly 25-minute cleaning routine, I noticed that one of my brackets looked a little different. I grabbed a magnifiying mirror and noticed that one of my bracket doors had opened. It took me a few minutes to figure out that it closed from the bottom-up, so like a dummy, I just put my finger on the bottom and pushed up (not as gently as I should have). It snapped right back into place... and HURT LIKE HELL!! Wow!! Hey, my first painful experience so far!! (Well, not counting ...
Mornin' y'all! I’m headed into my 3rd day of braces, and I hesitate to say this because I may jinx myself, but… I really haven’t had any “pain” to speak of. A little bit of rubbing from the brackets on my first day, yes, but that subsided overnight. I feel a bit of pressure and an odd “tingling” feeling, mostly on my lower front teeth. Does that mean there’s some sort of movement going on? I could’ve sworn I heard and felt a little “click” yesterday between my two bottom ...
Can y'all believe the day has finally arrived? I arrived at the office about 15 minutes early, and the staff was just walking in. My ortho came over to explain the two different types of Damon brackets I could choose from (self-ligating and non-self-ligating). I chose the non-self-ligating, thinking “I can put bands on them anyway, if I want some extra color.” After finishing up my paperwork, it was down to business. The assistant was the one who prepped me and put on ...

After much thought, and after reading many suggestions on this site, I decided to get a second consultation. I just was not comfortable with my first ortho's negative feelings about ceramic braces (which I had expressed interest in). I called my dentist and was referred to another ortho, who happens to be just a couple of doors away from my first ortho I had consulted a few days prior. I called him right after they opened and was in his office 30 minutes later. Long story short - I've ...
I’ve finally decided to take care of something that should’ve been done 30 years ago – take care of this overjet problem I’ve had since grade school. (Warning to Kids: This is what chronic thumbsucking will do to you!) I got a referral from my regular dentist for a (FREE!) consultation with an orthodontist who works right next door to him, and I was able to get in to see him the very same day. His office was very busy; however, he had a lot of techs there with him and everything moved ...
