Just finished with an adjustment, and I have some good news.

1. I talked to my doctor about tongue thurst. His response was "oh don't worry, we remove the tongue when treatment is finished." lol. My ortho is great. Anyway, I do have tongue thrust, and my ortho was already aware of it. When I get my braces off, he is putting a metal, permnanent retainer on my bottom teeth, and for the top teeth I will have an invisilign-type retainer to be worn at night. Also, he is going to glue a metal bar to the back of my top front teeth to prevent them from moving again. AND my ortho also has this bar because he has the same problem as me. I feel much better about my situation now.

2. I have a threader on my bottom teeth now.

3. My next adjustment is in 6 weeks, and we'll set my debanding date then. Horray!!

That's great that you are getting your braces off soon. Here's to that appointment going well.

    What is a threader?

Fantastic that you discussed the tongue thrust. Most ortho's work this our by observation and it's great that your ortho doesn't consider your's needs intervention, but that your teeth will be ok with fixed retainers.

Great that your teeth continue to do so well!

mariah- the threader is a stretchy elastic piece that weaves in and out of my bottom front 6 teeth. it's supposed to close gaps. i'm sure that explanation was horrible, so i'll post pics for you.

Mariah - sounds like it's probably what you'd know as a powerchain.

Cellardoor - I like your ortho's sense of humour

Regarding retainers: is what he is talking about bonding on your uppers different than the bonded retainer on the lowers?

Cellardoor's ortho is using elastic thread in the same way as many ortho's use a powerchain. It looks like the way ortho's wire brackets together ie, weaving under and over the brackets that are being 'tied' together.
