I barely notice them any more! It's such a relief. They get in the way a little, I admit, when I'm eating the £1 plain cheese sandwich from Sainsbury's. Which I'm afraid to say is a regular occurrence since I graduated and ran out of cash & can't cook. It's something to do with the plastic white bread and the sheets of cheddar. But so far I am really glad with them. Everything is happening inside the mouth, hidden. I probably look kind of off when I'm struggling with cheap sandwiches but otherwise, good.

I am worried about the ceramic braces though, because it's outside. I worry about food getting stuck in them, staining; red wine, coffee. I have a new lingual wire going in on Monday & the ceramics may go on at the same time, and in the evening I have my Christmas present, which is a trip to the ballet. And it'll hurt or I'll want to drink red wine and won't be able to because of the staining or I'll be dosed up on painkillers and won't be able to.

And no one (I think) has known that I have braces the last two months, unless I told them. And however discrete, it's going to be odd if people glimpse them now and start to mention them. I know I shouldn't but I'll feel kind of vein? I really like avoiding the plain truth, I'm British.

Oh & another worry is, I have to move away from London for a while. Because I can't afford to live here, so have to move 300 miles away to live in my parents home. Which is going to make adjustments a joke and emergencies a catastrophe.

Boo.

Will your ortho change out your ligs? That's what stains, not the ceramic braces. You may have SL ceramic ones, unfortunately I do not. But, my ortho will change out ligs every week. So, it's not a huge deal. I'm drinking drinks like tea and soda with a straw.. but not sure if you want to try that with red wine or not. If they're on your bottom teeth, will it matter? The top I can understand..

I guess I'm just vein! I'm not getting SL so it will be the ligatures that stain. I don't like the idea of anything on my teeth getting stained and the brace becoming more noticeable. It costs so much to get the more invisible ones, after all. & as I'm moving away so I won't be able to get them changed except every month or so when I have an adjustment. So looks like it's red wine through a straw then..

Also, some colors don't stain as much or look as bad. I'm trying out silver ones right now and see how they do. I ate pasta tonight and they're still good!

Good luck with getting your ceramic brackets and remember they can't be seen unless someone is looking at them up close ... and most people wouldn't be interested or bothered to look at your teeth ... really!

If you're concerned about the ligs staining, try silver ... it's descreet with ceramic brackets. Or ask your ortho about having your ligs changed more often ... or enquire about wire ties. We offer both silver wire ties and teflon coated white wire ties. Most of our patients find that brushing their ligs gently with a whitening toothpaste keeps them cleaner for longer. Remember that whitening toothpaste does not whiten, the best you can hope for, is that the most recent staining might be removed or reducted!

Enjoy your night out ... sounds like it will be a great time!
