bracewire laceration!

Woke up this morning, not in any more of a rush than normal, brushed my teeth with the usual due care and downed tools (!) and that is when I must have forgot myself for a hot minute because I did this thing I have an habit of doing, but have not been doing since being fitted and you will soon see why, I rubbed a finger along my top gum line and then went on to do the same on my bottom gum line and that is when it all went pete-tong :ouch:
The pain was immediate and I quickly withdrew my finger to see that I had pierced my finger-tip quite deeply with the end wire of my brace and the blood was just gushing out. I couldn't believe how stupid I had been to do it but that is me all over I guess.
And then would you believe that whilst flossing this evening after dinner I caught yet another finger of the same evil wire but thankfully I only snagged the skin and did not draw blood .
Seems there are lessons to be learnt and brace wire to be mastered
My next appointment with Ortho is next week and can't wait. I want to know how I am doing and also my ligs have gone from white to yellow :eew:

Sorry that the wire cut you. The ligs get yellow pretty fast

Ouch Metalmonkey that doesn't sound to good. Hopefully your fingers heal quickly and remember to ask the ortho to trim the ends of the archwires, as you don't want them to get long enough to poke the inside of your mouth!
White ligs can (and usually will) change colour when foods with food dye are drunk and eaten. Watch out for foods with red and yellow food dyes, as these seem to be the worst with white and clear ligs. Ask your ortho which ligs they believe resist showing stain the best. Personally I believe that all ligs stain, I've turned silver a fluro yellow ... which was a horrible shade. I eat a lot of spicy food, and the best colours for me so far have been black and purple. Here's to your ortho appointment being a great one and you hearing positive news about your progress! |
