2nd Adjustment
This was yesterday. Appointment was for 3.15pm and I was out of there by 3.40pm, so real quick. I thought I was going to get my ligs replaced as they are no longer white but it doesn't look like they were changed. I asked my Ortho and he said they had been but I am not so sure as they are the same colour they were when I went in
I had some tightening done, he mentioned something about reactivating the wires, and that was me done. He said things were moving along well which is good. I doubt my top brace will be going on until January or thereabouts because he said we have to wait for a lot of movement on the bottom first. I am in no hurry anyway and to the layperson my top teeth are 'perfectly straight'.
It seems I am not brushing my teeth as well as I thought I was because I was asked to make an appointment with the hygienist. I have no problem with this but at £45 every couple of months over the 14months of treatment that will add another £315 on to the total cost of treatment
I get free check-up and stuff at my normal dentist and I am thinking maybe I can just see my own dentist for check-up & cleaning.
I booked in for the hygienist nonetheless for the end of the month and also made my next Ortho appointment for November.
I have to get special floss because mine, regular kind, doesn't seem to be doing the job. My Ortho mentioned the type I need but I forgot to note it and tbh I didn't want to get it at the clinic incase I could get it cheaper from superdrug or the like.
I realise all this makes me sound like a cheapskate :embarrased:
My mouth is also sore in ways I can't explain adequately enough. I am not sure if it has anything to do with movement along the gumline but it might. The weirdest thing is that it is not only affecting my bottom gum but also the top. Let me see if I can explain better. You know when you open your mouth wide, well if you put your fingers in your mouth, with your mouth still wide open, a finger in each corner of your mouth, right in the middle where the top & bottom meets. Well that is exactly where the sores are. Right in that middle bit and it so hurts. I also had an adult moment during the week and ended up scraping the inside of my mouth quite bad. That is one type of abrasion I need to figure out a way to avoid

Great you've had another adjustment Metalmonkey.
Your ortho may have changed your ligs to a different shade, which has made them look the same. Don't be concerned, as even if they've not been changed, the archwire will keep on working. Great you've made the appointment to see the hygienist and hopefully s/he will explain what you need to do to improve your oral hygiene. It would be awful to go through orthodontic treatment and have your gums and teeth unhealthy. Plus poor hygiene can cause permanent marks on teeth, and that would be disappointing also. Floss ... some ortho's give their patients a soft plastic needle, so they can use their own floss in it, by threading it through the 'eye'. Personally I prefer to pay a little extra and get the oral b super floss, that is designed for people with braces. It has a small hard end, that you thread either between your teeth at the gum, or under the archwires and then floss. If you're flossing correcting, it won't matter what type of floss you use. Please ask the hygienist to show you how to floss. I've had gum disease as a result of not flossing, and it took me a few months to learn the art of flossing after being treated for that. Discomfort can be felt in areas that aren't being treated, sometimes this is related to where the nerves travel and muscle action. Plus your lower teeth may be moving, which is affecting how your upper teeth bite with them, and the result of that can affect how they sit in your gums. Talk to your ortho about this, as I'm sure he'll be able to explain what's happenint. Good luck with your treatment! |

I was gonna say something, but Sunny nailed it all.
It'd be cheaper in the long run if you can get your hygienist to teach you how to clean better than to pay them every so often. |
