Wait,Wait,Wait :-( & Random email?

Posted 08-22-2008 at 08:19 PM by coolestSamantha
3 months is a long time to wait. Hey quite frankly its 1/4 of the year! But why are my orthodontist appoinments always spaces usually 10-12 weeks apart. And most of the time it is usually leaning more on 12. Is it because thats how much time my teeth need to move? Or is it because my orthodontist is so filled up that you need to book your appoinments 3 months apart? It's frustrating because I want my braces off so bad but when my last appoinment was July
29th & the next not till Oct. 30th. That a huge wait for someone practically dying here wanting her braces off so bad!!!! I can't take the waiting anymore!!!
Today I got an email from my orthodontist saying that my next appoiment( which was scedualed for Oct.30th a 4:20 ) was moved to Wednesday at 4:20 and to call to confrim. Thats a little weird don't you think themto email and not call. I guess they would have called if I didn't call first but still.
I can't take these long waits anymore. Expecially when they usually end up wehn I go my estimated time of when there coming off has been pushed back again. From original 2 years tops to now, just 6 more months.
I feel so alone especially when all my friends are getting there braces off. Plus all my friends go to the orthodontist every 6 weeks. I feel so mad yet sad and deeply CONFUSED

I work for my orthodontist and my appointments (chair time) are usually between 8 and 12 weeks apart. There are other patients who are between 4 and 8 weeks and a few who are between 12 and 16. The ortho's where I work plan appointments around the work needed to be done, so they can move on. Modern archwires keep working till your teeth are in the perfect arch, so if they're not there, then there's still work to be done.

This is all about good time management and not wanting to waste the time of people who mostly have busy lives.

Waiting is hard work ... patience is not something that comes naturally to many, but be sure that your braces will come off. ... and remember that for many of us, our friends don't know what wearing braces is about and will never get them on or off! Feeling alone has nothing to do with having (or not having braces), but a state of mind, that is easily overcome with a little effort.

Good luck with your appointment Samantha and it's great you have an ortho who can plan appointments so as not to waste your time in the chair!

I have trouble waiting too. Before I switched orthos my appointments were 4 weeks apart. Now I have appointments every 8 weeks, 2 months seem like a long time. Good luck and I'm sure a few months will go by so fast.

Thanks Sunny & Mariah. I'm trying to patient but its very hard. A lot of people still have braces in my school but a lot seem to be getting retainers lately. I just can't wait untill its my turn! I'm actully really excitied about getting my retainer. I don't know why. Hopefully at my next appoinment they determine they can come off!

Great that you're excited about getting retainers, as hopefully this will mean you'll wear them as directed and continue their wear for life!

I hope your retainer times VERY soon!

Yeah I feel the same exact way too. True that there are some kids in my grade that have braces and more and more kids are getting them off. Happy for those kids but when am I going to get these off? Granted I haven't had them for 2 years yet and I am one of the youngest kids in my grade that is supposed to be in my grade. Ah I feel the same way. What colour are you choosing for your retainer? Wishing you the best of luck

I'm one of the youngest in my grade too. I always turn the age everybody else it literally about less than a week before school starts. But I was one of the first of my friends to get braces. I was the only kid in my 4th grade class! What color do I want for my retainer? Well I think my orthodontist lets us do this... I think. I want to get a tie dye retainer! But if not I think I would choose pink for the top and purple for the bottome. With glitter.

I would choose purple for top and it would have glitter and glow in the dark blue for bottom!
