Wondering about 2nd trays...

I was looking at trays 2 and 3 that my ortho sent home with me and noticed they have spaces for attachments which I don't have yet. They made an appointment for me to have these put on after I have completed my 3rd tray, but I find it odd my next tray is expecting them. My first tray doesn't have any notches for the attachments so I'm wondering if my ortho overlooked this. I'm calling him tomorrow (if they're open b/c of the holiday) to make sure I won't need them put on before I move to tray 2. Anyone else have this happen?

My first trays have the spaces for the attachments which was a shock especially after reading everyone else's blogs where most got trays 1 to get used to things without attachments. I'm used to it now though. Its only the teeth with attachments that are slightly tender when I have the trays out now.

it's always good to check with your ortho if only for your peace of mind. I had my attachments glued on after tray 2 and they appeared on tray 3 like magic!

That's what concerns me, they have the notches for the attachments, but I'm not suppose to have them put on until tray 4 according to my ortho. Why would they be molded with them for trays 2 and 3 if I wasn't suppose to have them until later. Also, it's nice to hear the sore teeth will be the ones with the attachments.. that gives me something to look forward to since MOST of my teeth will have them.

oh they're not that bad after you get used to them. although my first time getting them off in front of the assistant was fairly memorable.

i have quite a few of them too - 11 to be exact.

I finally got an answer from my orthos office today. They said that I don't need the buttons until my 4th tray, but the 2nd and 3rd trays are molded for them to give me time to get use to the feel. Has anyone else heard this or were they feeding me lies? I have never heard anyone else mention this before.

Coop I see no reason for you not to trust your orthodontist, as this is the person you've chosen to do your treatment.

The platinum provider where I work, doesn't do this, but he said he sees no reason why it couldn't be done, as long as you're extra careful to keep those areas clean. It won't affect the way those aligners work, as the pieces that need to be touching your teeth will be.

    Good luck!

Thanks Sunny. I just wonder if Invisalign messed up and added them but they weren't suppose to be. Why would you want that empy space on all of your teeth to hold food, water, etc next to your teeth? I was more worried that I would be ready to move to the next tray and my teeth wouldn't be ready as the buttons weren't on them to push them into the correct places. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Coop you shouldn't be eating and drinking with your aligners in, so having those spaces wouldn't be seen as a problem by the provider. Make sure if you do take something into your mouth with your aligners in, that it's only water ... and that it's room temp.

Hopefully it's all well, and I guess the only thing is if you don't trust your orthodontist to do the right thing for you, then maybe you should be consulting somewhere else. It's important to choose the a person you can trust, as there's a lot of time and money being put into this trust.

Thinking about the 'getting used to how they feel' statement ... that's seems like quite a good idea, as many people find the addition of buttons annoying for many reasons, whereas you're getting to deal with the 'feel' and some of the 'look' a month before you have to get used to the 'attachments' and 'removing and inserting' aligners with attachments.

Most important ... if you should have any problems with the third trays, make sure you contact your orthodontist immediately and explain the issues.

Good luck and here's to everything working out well for your teeth and gums!
