Time lol Your teeth will be sore for a few days but soon you'll be fine Chew slowly and take some pain meds if the pain becomes too much. Yay for progress!

Power chains and rubberbands don't require Novocaine. Power chains are like one big chain of elastics that goes around each bracket. And then you would just attach your small rubberbands to your brackets/hooks yourself, changing them every time you eat. There is definite soreness the first few days, but you will be fine after that.

Oh hell yeah, you'll be sore for a while. The good news: I've found that every time they put on a new powerchain it gradually hurts less and less compared to times before. I think once your teeth have less drastic movement to make, it hurts less. Like at the beginning, I had huge gaps that had to be filled (see here ) and when I first got powerchains oh mama... it was a LOT of pain (couldn't even chew soft bread). But now that my teeth have finished crossing those great distances, it is a far less painful process to replace the chains.

And yes the "chains" are just like a big rubberband that is woven over the brackets to pull everything together. It's not a scary process at all.
