Mouth still hurts, but I think it's because my cheeks are all cut up from the brackets. My actual teeth do not hurt. In fact, I've had relative little actual tooth pain. The first night my bottom teeth (with the wire) were sore, but didn't actually hurt. The next morning they felt better. The sensitivity is still there. Chewing solids is not something I'm going to be able to do today. I can suck on donuts, crackers, and eat lots of soup and that seems to work great.

I finally have some photos online. Here is my smile, as of two months ago:

Here are the braces as they look today:

Those top two teeth are going to have to straighten out more before they can put brackets on them, which may take a few months.

Oral surgery is scheduled for Friday the 17th. Then, on Friday the 24th the top wire will go on. This makes me nervous as we are scheduled to leave for vacation on June 25th and I'm scheduled for appointments every 8 weeks. I'm not looking forward to being sore for the entire length of my vacation.

Still, I'm staying optimistic that today's pain is going to be worth it in the end...

Happy Easter!

Hopefully you'll have less discomfort when the archwire goes on, as this will cushion the affect of the brackets that are there.

Adjustments are not painful for most people. In fact many people don't even experience much (or any) discomfort. Tooth movement needs to be slow for the health of your gums and the roots of your teeth, and this helps reduce discomfort.

Be positive ... you're going to have a great vacation ... and a great bite very soon!
