Well I'm almost to month 19 now, and no sight of getting these things off. However, my gap is closing up nicely and is almost where it needs to be. And I finally, yesterday, got the news I was waiting for. The doc is going to straighten my laterals!! They are straight in the sense that they are flat, but they still hang crooked in the sockets. Considering when they started out they were completely twisted sideways, they've come quite far. However, this has been my main focus through my entire treatment and now it's finally going to happen! I'm in the last few months of treatment, hopefully I won't have to go the full 24-months. The tech I spoke to yesterday said to tell the doc when I feel like things look and feel good, and discuss a debanding at that time. She said otherwise, he will tweak and fix and try to get things to be 100% text book perfect which often leads people to go a month (sometimes several) over their estimated dates. I told her I'm NOT going over 24 months, by hook or by crook Will post some updated pics soon as I can on my progress!

Yay Denise! That is very good news, so glad that your teeth are doing their thing and you are making some awesome progress.

I have my appointment next week so I am hoping that my news is just as good.

Question: Do you think that they are going to have to do some 'shaving' off of your teeth in order to keep them in line???

Congrats again and yep you will be out of yours before me...

Michelle, my laterals are actually a tad smaller than my other teeth, so for a while he was talking about leaving a gap and letting me decide if I want the dentist to putty it up to make it match, but I'm going to see how they are looking toward the end of my treatment to see if i want to waste my time and money on that. He is going to have to shape some of my teeth which will involve shaving. My friend who just got her braces off had hers polished and shaped and she said it doesn't hurt but it's super weird feeling. Her whole appointment to get her braces off took over an hour.

Ok I gotcha, I think that my laterals are a tad bit smaller as well. My ortho is going to send me for my frenectomy sometime next year with my braces still on *she didn't want to give me a date yet* She mentioned something about having to possibly 'build' me some teeth too I guess I had a look of horror on my face when she said it so she said just to relax and we would talk about it further down the line.

Wow Denise it sounds like you're getting really close! It is so heartening isn't it when they start talking about 'last little tweaks' and 'finishing up', you must be getting really excited. Sounds like you are well on your way to 'nakedness'. Good for you, you've worked bloody hard and done all the things you're supposed to so they'll be off in no time I should think. Good luck, can't wait to see pics.

Fantastic that things are going so well Denise ... it's always great when the gap(s) get to the nearly closed/closed stage!

It's great that the tech had a talk with you about your teeth and ortho.

Good luck with you soon getting an end date!

I wanna see you naked, girl..

    Uh... Your TEETH, that is!

I was trying to look up your pics here, and can't find them. (Oh, wait... they were in your blog, not an album. Dummy me. Gonna go check them out now.) I'm trying to picture what your laterals look like. I'm sorry you had to wait longer than you'd hoped, but isn't it nice that you can now say you'll probably be out of them in a FEW months, rather than over a year (like me)? I have a strong feeling I'll be like you and settle for "almost perfect", if it means not going longer than 24 months.

    Crossing fingers for you...!!!
