I'll admit, I'm nervous. I'm 30 years old and I've never had any kind of dental work other than a filling done, and have never had tooth/mouth/jaw pain so this is going to be an entirely new experience.

I am getting ceramic braces, and I've spent hours online researching the best foods to eat, the best toothbrush to buy, and the best way to help care for mouth pain - however I'm open to any and all suggestions people have to help me along the way!

    All the best Denise!

My advice for people prior to getting their brackets put on ... go to the toilet, cover your lips with lip balm ... and then do your best to relax ... probably that one is easier written than done!

Hope it all goes well and you remember to ask your ortho/ortho assistant loads of questions!

Good luck Denise, I am 31 and had ceramics put on at the beginning of January---first 2 weeks are the toughest but it gets better. Eat really good before you get them on!!!! I didn't eat lunch the day I got mine on, and really because my tummy was all topsy turvey that day...but boy, did I regret it when I was starving and slurping oatmeal that night. Wax is your best friend, use it whenever you think you feel some rubbing...don't think you have to suffer to toughen your mouth up...put that wax ON!!! Lip balm--yes, I actually have a regular tub of vaseline on my desk and I use it all the time. It doesn't give me that dry feeling half hour after applying. Drink lots of water, as those lips tends to stick to your braces, and they will glide over much easier if you do those things. Good luck, and how exciting for you. It means so much to us at our age because it is a HUGE step!!!!!
