  1. Extraction went great, top wire goes on the 29th

    by , 04-18-2009 at 11:55 AM
Well the extraction yesterday went fine. I was in a drugged-up haze most of the day but today, other than a headache, I feel fine. No mouth pain at all. So now we just let the holes heal, and the top wire goes on the 29th. I'm looking forward to enjoying a few days without mouth pain until that top wire goes on and the soreness begins again!

  2. Extractions Tomorrow

    by , 04-16-2009 at 11:11 PM
I admit, I'm nervous. I've never had "surgery" of any kind, ever. These teeth will be the first things I've had removed from me. I'm not sure what to expect, and I always psych myself out when it comes to this stuff. I'm sure it'll be fine but I'm just so tired of eating soup and pudding, I guess I'm mostly frustrated that I'll be back to that for a few days, and then again on the 29th when the top wire goes on and the bottom wire is inspected and possibly tightened.

  3. First Full Week

    by , 04-16-2009 at 12:09 AM
Today marks my first whole week with braces. Friday is surgery to pull two teeth, and the top wire goes on the 29th. I am finally feeling only a tiny bit of pressure on the top teeth when I try to bite into food. Back teeth are basically back to 'normal'. Brackets are still cutting the inside of my cheeks but the calluses are building and I think another few weeks and it'll be fine.

On another somewhat funny note, my sister went to the orthodontist yesterday and what started as ...

  4. Going into day 6

    by , 04-13-2009 at 01:11 PM
My teeth are still very sensitive. I can't bite through solids very easily. I can bite through more than I could before, but not for very long. Still eating lots of soup, pudding, and yogurt. Mouth is all healed up from the slicing it took from the uncovered brackets on days 1 and 2. The gishy goo works so much better than wax.

Greatly looking forward to the day I can chew through normal food again!

  5. Could it be possible? Could things be getting...better?!

    by , 04-12-2009 at 02:12 AM
So it's the end of day four. My cheeks are healing from my very brutal mistake of not slathering on tons of wax the minute the brackets went on. I have a cut on the tip of my tongue that hurts pretty bad from hitting it on one of the brackets but that will heal. My teeth are still incredibly sensitive to pressure. I can't chew a potato chip. I had a black olive with dinner and it even hurt to bite into that. Is this normal?! Also, I found some Freedent at the store and bought a pack, but it's ...

  6. Day Three

    by , 04-10-2009 at 04:06 PM
Mouth still hurts, but I think it's because my cheeks are all cut up from the brackets. My actual teeth do not hurt. In fact, I've had relative little actual tooth pain. The first night my bottom teeth (with the wire) were sore, but didn't actually hurt. The next morning they felt better. The sensitivity is still there. Chewing solids is not something I'm going to be able to do today. I can suck on donuts, crackers, and eat lots of soup and that seems to work great.

    I finally ...

  7. Day Two

    by , 04-09-2009 at 12:53 PM
Bottom teeth (ones with the wire) hurt. Can't eat solids. Any pressure on the teeth, upper or lower, is painful. Chewing gum all morning to try and keep the blood flowing and help alleviate the pain quicker.

My cheeks are starting to get scratched up inside. Can't seem to get the wax to stick to the brackets that are scratching me.

Surgery for the two extractions probably will happen sometime next week, so the week following will be time for upper brackets and ...

  8. Braces are on!

    by , 04-08-2009 at 02:32 PM
Thanks for the words of welcome to everyone who posted to me yesterday.

This morning all the brackets went on, and the bottom wire went on. I also got a "speed bump" installed on the back of one of my front teeth. I need two teeth extracted on the top, a wisdom and a tooth on the side to make room for movement. So about a week after the surgery I'll have that top wire put on. Surgery should happen in the next few days. The office should be calling today to set up the ...

  9. Having my braces put on tomorrow.

    by , 04-07-2009 at 06:53 PM
I'll admit, I'm nervous. I'm 30 years old and I've never had any kind of dental work other than a filling done, and have never had tooth/mouth/jaw pain so this is going to be an entirely new experience.

I am getting ceramic braces, and I've spent hours online researching the best foods to eat, the best toothbrush to buy, and the best way to help care for mouth pain - however I'm open to any and all suggestions people have to help me along the way!
