Hi guys

Hope everyone is doing good. I HATE my braces lately I am having a few weeks of feeling sorry for myself and wishing the next 2 years will fly by. I know I was actually okay with them last blog but people keep commenting on how they make my lips stick out and how funny it is and how uncomfortable my mouth looks. People are MEAN!!!! I know they think it's funny but can't they lie about it now and then in 2 years tell me what a loser I looked like.

SO today I got my finishing UPPER wire and that kinda of hurt going in, really really tight. Same wire on bottom for 6 more weeks then I will get the finishing wire. I got some new elastics, like an upside triangle on both sides, from the 2 upper hooks to the 2nd lower hook (Sunny, since you are the expert, are these to move my lower jaw forward or ??????)

AND the worst elastic a upside triangle on my right side to close things up, I only have to wear at night time or when I am home alone, so it will stay on lots, hopefully it moves fast. They added wire hooks and I can only imagine how many pieces of food will get stuck in them. LOL. Could be some good laughs coming up for me or me to make others laugh.

OHHHHHHHHHH and the BEST NEWS!!!! I got laser eye surgery so I am no longer ugly betty, well just the braces but no more geek chic glasses for me. I got PRK which takes longer to heal than lasik so my computer vision sucks right now it takes 3 weeks to 3 months to heal. I am just at 3 weeks. I was going to wait til I had money in the budget but their was a huge special.....Ummmm yeah I know you should never choose the place with the special when it comes to your vision but it was a great company so I did it. I have wanted to do this for over 10 years so I am very happy about it but still am feeling like a loser with the braces.

Okay now that I am done feeling sorry for myself I will remember how appreciative I am that I can afford to do this. My husband basically told me to suck it up because I really wanted this and knew it would be a tough couple years to get the results I wanted. No pain no gain

Hope everyone is having happy moving teeth !!!!!

Elle

PS Hopefully my spelling is okay, can't really see very well

EDITED pic with elastics is now Month 5.5, without is day 1

I also have triangle elastics but are flipped from yours and a bit further back on the left side. They hurt pretty bad!
BTW what do you mean by finishing wire?

They do hurt but I feel the more you wear them the less it hurts.

From my understanding, finishing wire is the last wire and the Ortho can bend it to move teeth into the correct place. I will have this wire with different bends until I get these things off. The other wires are memory wires and move your teeth into place, getting them as ready as possible. I had 3 wires before this one.

Finishing might sound like close to the end, but NOPE. still lots of stuff to move but 1 step close to the end. My estimate was 18-28 months, I am at 5.5 months.

Yeah that's why I was a bit confused! Were your teeth pretty straight to begin with? Mine were close so I have had large wires almost the whole way through. My bite is what I'm fixing!

My teeth were bad, not too bad but bad, if you look at my blog to the right PICTURES folder you can see my day 1. Sorry can't figure out how to add the pic here, maybe I will try to edit my post. My overbite was 10mm. Teeth 2mm crowded on bottom and 1mm on top, they wanted to do lower jaw surgery but I said No way.

Elle! As a fellow specs wearer I am thrilled for your having PRK done. Good stuff. You are on a roll.

I sure do understand the up & down feelings about braces. I did notice, and missed, seeing your writing there for a bit. I think lots of us get that way. Speaking of which, I'm gonna write a blog update soon. Mutter...mutter...

Those people who blurt out rude comments are dolts. Next time that happens perhaps you could stop what you're doing, look them straight in the eye and say something like, "What do you mean by that?" or "Gee, that's rather insulting" in a none too pleasant voice and hold their gaze. Maybe they'll catch on. Also there's lots to be said for practicing one's most withering look.

Wow, 2 years!! I admire your perseverance. I'm on Invisalign and can take my aligners out when they really bother me, but I truly couldn't imagine having metal permanently in my mouth. You are brave, patient and a each day a closer to getting those things off forever.

PS: I dont ever believe you were an ugly betty, the fact that you can face the world everyday with your braces is a true test in attaining confidence because you'll realize YOU are more than just your teeth and looks!

Wow your progress is amazing, especially looking great now that your front teeth are looking more aligned!

It's fantastic that you've had eye surgery! I've considered it, but haven't had the courage and not sure if I ever will. Hope your eyes continue to recover well!

It looks like your ortho is using the triangular elastics to help pull your bite together. I've had triangular elastics on both sides for many many months and they've helped my bite to close correctly and hold my bite in place.

Good luck with the rest of your treatment going smoothly!

Thanks Sunny. Yeah I think they said something about holding bite or something LOL. I always get so nervous I forget to ask questions

Thanks Monopoly, The other day I was like WHY WHY WHY WHY didn't I just do invisilgn for 12 months, same cost, but I know this was the better way to fix my bite properly. Because as much as it is about looking good and aligned, they might as well be the best they can be and prevent future dental problems.

Thanks Jude, People like to bug me probably because I let them and then cry in private LOL.

If anything these braces will teach me patience and gratitude and just to SUCK IT UP!!!! It it braces, not a permanent scar or major health problem just a little bit of metal. SERENITY NOW SERENITY NOW!!!! lol
