Well it feels like ive had my retainer in forever now, My speach is nearly back to normal which im very happy about!

Although the past week ive had a sore lump on my cheek where the wire has been rubbing, so ive been using the ortho wax and its helping.

Tuesday is the big day!! Getting my bottom braces fixed and he gonna look at my top.

What should I expect from the appointment. Ive got it after work so i can go straight home after. Will it hurt at all?

That's a huge question and one I always answer with 'How long is a piece of string?' ... the reason is that it depends on so many things that even your ortho will not be able to answer it. What is your pain tolerance like ... although you may not have any pain? Many people find that the first few hours are fine, but then they have a few aches in their mouth from teeth that now have pressure on them. Usually this doesn't last long and most people don't need pain meds, but there are some who do and for whom this becames more uncomfortable/painful.

Most people find soft foods easier to cope with for the first 24/48 hours. It's important to chew, both for the comfort of your mouth and your food intake, so the sooner you chew, the better you'll feel.

We ask our patients not to eat hard food for four hours then to return to their usual died. We ask them to drink more water than they usually would and to stay well hydrated for the length of their treatment. Also they're given a few containers of wax and told to use it generously as it's better for your mouth if it toughens due to rubbing on the wax, then you having to cope with mouth sores, due to the inside of your mouth being ripped and turning into sores.

Good luck and I hope you're like most of our patients and find this is an easy experience!

    Thanks for the advice.

Well i went along to my appointment and they had made a mistake and not given my ortho the correct appointment time so they did nt put my brace on I was very disappointed! So he just gave me the key to my retainer to begin expanding my top pallet. I have to turn it twice a week. I am now getting my bottom braces on 6th Oct..... feels like ages away!! But at least by then my top teeth will have had time to move out.

Im getting ceramics top and bottom, any advice on what foods to avoid? Is it just the typical foods like curry, coffee etc?

    Thanks

That's a shame, but hopefully the weeks will fly till 6 October!

Ceramic brackets don't stain. If you're wearing ligs and/or powerchains, it will depend on the colour as to how quickly and what shade it will stain to. Clear and toothcoloured ligs/powerchains stain the quickest, as they are stained by all foods that aren't clear or white. Brushing with a whitening toothpaste does help to clean the some of the staining from the ligs ... and can keep them looking great. Soft shade ligs/powerchains also stain with most strong coloured foods eg tumeric. Blue shades turn green when you eat yellow foods ... and I've turned silve/grey ligs/powerchains a yuck shade of green/yellow, due to the amount of curry I love.

    Good luck with 6 October!
