What to say to an adult with braces?

Today I came into contact with a woman, probably in her 30s with braces. We didn't really talk beyond simple greetings. She was clearly very embarrassed by them and kept trying to hide them. I actually admired her for getting braces and thought she looked beautiful, so I felt bad that she was so ashamed. I just wanted to know if it would be rude for me to say something to her, since of course, it would draw more attention to her braces. But if words of encouragement are ok, what do you suggest I say? By the way, I am in high school.

Ugh, don't talk about it. She doesn't want to talk about it, so just don't. She's hoping you won't notice. Bringing it up will make her feel more self-conscious. Trust me. I used to have a big gap between my front teeth and even though lots of people thought it was "beautiful", I was absolutely mortified every time someone brought up the topic of teeth or how "good" I looked. Just play it safe and say nothing braces or teeth related.

I agree IGNORE!!! lol, I am okay with my braces now (mostly) but at first I HATED when before anyone would even say Hello, they were like OHHHH you got braces!!, I would think NO s**t sherlock LOL. I understand most were trying to be nice or encouraging but its like when I have a huge pimple I don't need people pointing it out. In a couple years when I get my braces off my family and friends are welcome to comment on how dorky I looked but I would prefer they pretend for now they don't exist unless I bring it up first.
